Mellette Claims National Recognition

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Elon senior wide receiver Aaron Mellette was recognized by two different organizations for his career day against Appalachian State on Oct. 6.  Mellette shared The Sports Network FCS National Offensive Player of the Week accolades with Murray State quarterback Casey Brockman.  He was also honored as the National Wide Receiver of the Week by College Football Performance Awards.

Against Appalachian State, Mellette caught 13 passes on his way to matching career-highs with 237 receiving yards and three touchdowns.  The performance gave the Sanford, N.C., native 18 career 100-yard games, the second-highest total ever by a Southern Conference player.  Mellette upped his career receiving total to 3,516 yards, moving into fifth place on the SoCon's career chart.

Mellette also ranks among the SoCon's all-time best with 257 catches (third) and 36 touchdown receptions (third).

This season, Mellette has caught 50 balls for 670 yards and 10 touchdowns.  His 8.33 receptions per game currently rate sixth nationally while his 110.00 receiving yards per outing rank eighth at the FCS level.
