RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women's lacrosse junior
Melanie McHugh was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, May 1, after a career performance against William & Mary over the weekend.
In an 18-4 victory on the road against the Tribe, McHugh set new career highs with five ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Her seven caused turnovers tied for the second-most in a single game in program history and more than doubled her previous career mark, which also came last season against William & Mary. Her five ground balls gives her 22 on the 2017 season. She had grabbed multiple ground balls in a game just four previous times this season.
Towson's Kaitlyn Montalbano, the conference preseason Player of the Year, was awarded CAA Player of the Week this week while Mia DeRuggiero of Delaware earned Rookie of the Week.
Third-seeded Elon will take on second-seeded Towson on Friday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m. inside Johnny Unitas Stadium in the CAA Semifinals. Elon is searching for its first win in the tournament. It dropped a two-goal decision last year in the CAA Semifinals to the Tigers.
