RICHMOND, Va. – Mario Paccini of Elon University men's tennis has been named the CAA Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon, March 13.
Paccini was selected for the award after going a perfect 2-0 in a pair of singles matches at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions in Elon's wins over Winthrop and Navy.
On Saturday against Winthrop, he cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Leandros Pappayiannis at No. 2 singles to give the Phoenix a 2-0 lead on the way to a 5-2 victory over the Eagles. One day later against Navy, Paccini moved up to No. 1 singles and took down Andrew Ton 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 to help the Phoenix sweep Navy 6-0.
With his two victories over the weekend, Paccini has now won three matches in a row and stands at 7-5 on the year in singles.
Elon closes its five-match homestand on Saturday, March 17, with a 10 a.m. match against VCU at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
