ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's tennis swept this week's CAA weekly awards after
Nicholas Condos earned Player of the Week honors, while the duo of
Camilo Ponce and
Kyle Frankel picked up Doubles Team of the Week honors, the league office announced on Wednesday, April 28.
Condos picked up the honor after defeating Oscar Hernandez 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets. With the win, Condos moved to a perfect 3-0 in No. 3 singles and has now won his last two matches. He joins
Kyle Frankel (Feb. 17),
Akram El Sallaly (March 3) and
Camilo Ponce (March 10) as the fourth athlete to earn a Player of the Week honor for the Phoenix this season.
The tandem of Ponce and Frankel collected the honor after helping lead the Phoenix to a 7-0 victory over James Madison on Friday, April 23. Against the Dukes, Ponce and Frankel defeated Alvaro Arce and Oscar Hernandez, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point for Elon. The victory moved them to 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles slot and helped them secure their second Double Team of the Week selection this season.
Elon returns to action on Friday, April 30, when it takes on seventh-seeded Drexel in the quarterfinals of the 2021 CAA Men's Tennis Tournament. That match is slated for a 3 p.m. start at the Millie West Tennis Facility in Williamsburg, Va.
