ABOUT THE FACILITY
The newest athletic facility at Elon University, Schar Center opened in Fall 2018 with all three programs - men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball - that call it home welcoming in-state rivals to open the facility. The 160,000 square-foot building is the premier gathering space for the Elon community and surrounding region. The largest facility on Elon's campus, Schar Center also provides a venue for concerts, convocations, speakers and other major campus events.
Included within the arena is club level seating, two high definition videoboards, a spacious entry atrium, a large practice gymnasium with two courts for both basketball and volleyball, outstanding locker room and team facilities, and a hospitality room for social events and gatherings. At 5,100, the arena's capacity triples the size of the previous home for the three athletic teams and is on par with the size of facilities at other member institutions in the Colonial Athletic Association.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Serving as athletics' grand opening of Schar Center, Elon men's basketball hosted the sixth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on November 9, 2018, to mark the first regular-season men's basketball game inside the new facility. In front of a program-record 5,245 fans, which shattered the previous record for most fans in attendance at a men's basketball home game, the game aired on ESPNU and put Elon University on center stage for the world to see during one of the most exciting weeks of the college basketball season.
Elon's entire basketball staff is housed on the third floor of Schar Center behind the Sunbrella Club. The locker room, located on the first floor of the arena, features a film room to scout future opponents and a player lounge complete with TV, video games and more. A weight room for players and coaches to utilize is also located on the first floor, as well as athletic training facilities.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Playing the first-ever regular-season basketball game inside Schar Center, Elon women's basketball hosted the North Carolina Tar Heels on November 6, 2018, in front of a program-record 1,622 fans. Prior to the game, the program raised its second Division I conference championship banner to the rafters after claiming the 2018 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament championship.
While set to host the CAA Women's Basketball Championship in March 2020, the tournament was canceled after the first day of competition due to the Coronavirus outbreak across the nation. While the 2020 tournament was canceled after Elon had won its opening-round game over Hofstra, the tournament is set to return to Schar Center in March 2021.

VOLLEYBALL
Having the distinct privilege of opening Schar Center with the first athletic event in the facility, the Elon volleyball program hosted North Carolina A&T on August 28, 2018, and earned a 3-0 sweep of the Aggies. The night featured a crowd of 1,465 fans to mark the largest home crowd in Elon volleyball history to watch a home match.

MORE ABOUT SCHAR CENTER
Schar Center is named for Elon parents Dwight and Martha Schar, who generously contributed $9 million to the project. The university purchased the land for the facility with financial support from longtime Elon benefactor and alumnus Furman Moseley '56 and his wife, Susan.
Club seating in the Sunbrella Club Level is located on the third floor of the facility and features a place to gather with friends and family within the Elon Community while taking in a men's basketball game. The practice facility on the first floor of the arena is named for Maurice J. Koury and the social gathering space on the concourse near the main entrance to the facility is named for Robert V. Gill. Named during the opening match of the 2018 season against North Carolina A&T, the volleyball locker room was named the Sydel Curry '17 Locker Room as a gift to the former Elon volleyballer from her brothers, Stephen and Seth Curry. The Elingburg Family Athletics Communications Suite houses Elon's athletics communications and creative department, while the Elingburg Family Press Room serves as a media work room and press conference location.

Aug. 28, 2018 - Elon volleyball plays first collegiate athletic event, beating North Carolina A&T by the score of 3-0.
Oct. 18, 2018 - Elon University's ninth president, Dr. Connie Ledoux Book, is inaugurated as the first female president of the university.
Nov. 1, 2018 - Schar Center hosts the Harlem Globetrotters, marking the first time the organization performed in Alamance County.
Nov. 3, 2018 - Student Union Board hosts the first concert inside Schar Center for Homecoming. The show featured Jesse McCartney, Sean Kingston and Quinn XCII.
Nov. 6, 2018 - Elon women's basketball hosts the first collegiate basketball game in the building against North Carolina in front of a program-record 1,622 fans.
Nov. 9, 2018 - Elon men's basketball hosts the Inaugural Men's Basketball Game in the facility against No. 7 North Carolina with a program-record 5,245 fans on hand.
May 24, 2019 - Elon holds its 129th annual commencement exercises inside Schar Center. The graduating class marked the first to walk across the stage and shake the President's hand inside the facility.
Nov. 2, 2019 - The second concert inside Schar Center for Homecoming 2019 features T-Pain as the headliner with gianni & kyle opening the night on stage.
