CHARLOTTE, NC -- In conjunction with the beginning of the Big South Conference Basketball television season, the League has announced its ICG Netcom Community All-Star Team and two Elon College student-athletes have been named to it, announced conference officials Tuesday.
Marco Lehmer of the men's soccer team and Hilary Shannon of the softball squad have been named to the team, representing the Fightin' Christians. The team, which consists of student-athletes from member institutions, will be featured during the Big South's television basketball season.
Lehmer, a sophomore midfielder from Camp Hill, PA, serves as President of Campus Outreach, while also being a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Habitat for Humanity. He also serves as a tutor at Elon Elementary School and volunteers at the Greensboro homeless shelter. Lehmer, who is majoring in Business, played in all 19 games last fall, while gaining the starting nod on 13 occasions. He is also a member of the Elon Athletics Director's Academic Honor Roll.
Shannon is a junior left fielder for the Fightin' Christians' softball team, while double-majoring in Physical Education and Mathematics. The Jaffrey, NH native has been very active with Habitat for Humanity, as well as Special Olympics. Shannon played in 42 games, hitting .272 during the Fightin' Christians record breaking 37-10-1 season in 1998. She is a member of the Kappa MU Epsilon mathematics honor society and the HPEL Club, while also serving as a math tutor. Shannon's other honors include the President's List and Dean's List and in 1997 was named to the South Atlantic Conference Honor Roll. She is presently a member of the Elon Athletics Director's Academic Honor Roll.
The Big South Conference is an NCAA Division I member with eight institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, including Charleston Southern University, Coastal Carolina University, Elon College, High Point University, Liberty University, UNC Asheville, Radford University and Winthrop University.
