During his career, Elon finished in the top 10 at the NAIA National Tournament three times, including a 4th place finish in '86 and a 3rd place showing in '87. Individually, Byrnes won NAIA All-American honors in 1987 and 1988, and he was a two-time selection as Carolinas Conference and NAIA District 26 MVP. He also won the Basnight Outstanding Athlete Award in 1989, his senior season. He currently works as the Head Golf Professional at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, and lives in McLeansville with his wife, Barbara, and son, Jack.

Henry Goedeck '69 -- Goedeck was one of Elon's most outstanding basketball players during the decade of the '60's. He finished his career with 1,995 points, averaging 19.0 points in 105 games. He was the second-leading career scorer in school history when his career ended, and he also averaged 10.7 rebounds per game. Currently, he lives in Greensboro with his wife, Lynne, and they are the parents of 12 children. He works as a Container Repair Mechanic with New Breed Corporation in High Point.

Bobby Green '57 -- Green was a four-year letterwinner in baseball, where he excelled as an outfielder. He earned All-Conference honors in 1954, hitting .268 as Elon went 18-7-1 and won the North State Conference title. He led the conference in RBI's (21), triples, stolen bases, and home runs in 1955 to earn his second consecutive spot on the all-league team. He led the conference in RBI's again in 1956, his third straight all-conference season. Today, he is the General Manager of Green Ford in Greensboro, and has two daughters and five grandchildren.

Clayton Johnson '65 -- Johnson was a standout performer on the 1963 and '64 championship football teams of Coach George Tucker. He was also a highly successful assistant coach at Elon from 1969 to 1981. As the offensive backfield coach, he was a part of two national championship teams, and coached six of the top ten career rushers in school history. Nine times during his coaching tenure, Elon had at least one back rush for at least 1,000 yards in a season. He also spent five seasons as the head coach at Newberry College. Since 1988, he has been a teacher and coach at Morehead High School in Eden, NC. He and his wife, Susan, have two children.

Harry E. "Sid" Varney -- Coach Varney earned a great deal of respect during his tenure as Elon's football coach from 1953 to 1959. His 1957 team was undefeated in conference play, and two other teams, in 1954 and 1956, won second-place honors in the conference. His 1955 track team also won the conference title. He retired in 1994 after 22 years as Academic Dean of the College of Applied Professional Sciences at the University of South Carolina.
