This Week in Elon Athletics

ELON, N.C. – Every Monday, Phoenix fans can get a look at the week ahead with our “This Week in Elon Athletics” feature when we will preview all of the week's upcoming events for our winter sports teams.

Men’s Basketball (2-3)
Elon at Furman, Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., Greenville, S.C.
Elon vs. Wofford, Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., Elon, N.C.

• The Phoenix opens Southern Conference play this week when it travels to Furman on Wednesday night. Elon holds a 7-3 advantage against the Paladins all-time — the teams split the meetings last year with each team winning on the other’s home court.
• Elon will then return home to host the defending SoCon champion Wofford Terriers on Saturday night. The Phoenix is 29-17 against the Terriers but dropped both games to the eventual champions in 2009-10.
• Elon rookie Jack Isenbarger is having a stellar start to his career in the maroon and gold. The guard put up his third 20+ point performance of the season with 23 points against ACC power Maryland on Friday night.

Women’s Basketball (4-1)
Elon at Appalachian State, Monday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m., Boone, N.C.
Elon at #10 West Virginia, Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., Morgantown, W.Va.
Elon at Morgan State, Sunday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m., Baltimore, Md.

• With a 4-1 record this season, the Phoenix is off to its best start since the 1997-98 squad began the year with a 5-1 mark.
Kelsey Evans registered her second consecutive double-double in Elon’s win over Virginia Intermont on Nov. 23, going for 16 points and 12 boards. Evans tallied 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds against Coastal Carolina on Nov. 21. Evans has recorded three double-doubles this season and seven in her career.
• Elon will open up Southern Conference play on Monday night by visiting Appalachian State.  The Phoenix is 9-15 all-time against the Mountaineers.  The teams enter the game ranking first and second in scoring in the SoCon – ASU is averaging 79.8 ppg and Elon has put up 78.6 ppg.
• The Phoenix has never faced West Virginia or Morgan State.

Women’s Indoor Track
Elon at Liberty Kick-Off, Saturday, Dec. 4, Lynchburg, Va.

• The indoor track season gets underway for Elon this weekend as the Phoenix heads to Lynchburg, Va. for the Liberty Kick-Off.  It is the first of eight indoor meets for the team.
• Senior Veronica Day returns as the defending Southern Conference indoor champion in the long jump after she soared 18'9 1/4" at last year's league meet.
• Elon is coming off of its program-best SoCon indoor season – the Phoenix placed fifth at last year's championship event.  At last year's SoCon championship, Elon placed three athletes on the all-conference team, one on the all-freshman squad and broke two school records.
