Phoenix Hoops Preview
Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m., Alumni Gym

• Come check out both the men's and women's basketball teams in the second Phoenix Hoops Preview on Sunday.
• Both teams will scrimmage and be available for a meet and greet and autograph session.
• Schedule posters for both teams will be available for free!

Football (4-3, 2-2 SoCon)
Elon vs. Chattanooga, Saturday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m., Rhodes Stadium (Homecoming)
 
• Wide receiver Aaron Mellette caught 15 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown in Elon’s 12-point loss at Samford. Mellette has registered a touchdown reception in eight consecutive games.
• Freshman Gary Coates blocked his third punt in the last two games in the third quarter. The block was scooped up and taken for a 16-yard score by #A.J. Harris#, his second blocked punt returned for a TD this year.
• Elon will return home to Rhodes Stadium for Homecoming when it welcomes the Chattanooga Mocs for a 3 p.m. televised contest on Saturday.
• The Phoenix is 6-2 all-time against the Mocs and has won five straight in the series.
 
Men’s Golf
Elon at Donald Ross Intercollegiate, Monday – Tuesday, Oct. 17 – 18, Morganton, N.C.
 
• The Phoenix men’s golf team will play its third fall event this week as it participates in the Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State.
• Elon placed eighth out of 16 teams at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in its most recent tournament. The Phoenix was led by John Somers who shot a 216 (78-71-67) to place in a tie for 10th individually.
• The Donald Ross Intercollegiate features a field of 12 teams, including SoCon rivals Appalachian State and Western Carolina.
• The tournament will be held at Morganton’s Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club and features 36 holes of play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
 
Men’s Soccer (4-8-1, 1-3-0)
Elon at Wake Forest, Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., Winston-Salem, N.C.
Elon vs. Georgia Southern, Friday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m., Rudd Field
 
• The Phoenix will look for its second win of the year against an ACC opponent when it travels to Wake Forest. Elon defeated the Clemson Tigers last Tuesday night at Rhodes Stadium.
• Elon and Wake played overtime last season with the Demon Deacons coming away with the 2-1 victory at Rudd Field. Wake owns the 8-1-1 all-time series advantage.
• On Elon’s homecoming weekend, the Phoenix will aim for its fourth consecutive win against the Georgia Southern Eagles. Elon defeated the Eagles 4-1 on the road in 2010.
 
Volleyball (14-9, 3-5 SoCon)
Elon at North Carolina A&T, Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m., Greensboro, N.C.
Elon at Wofford, Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., Spartanburg, S.C.
Elon at Furman, Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., Greenville, S.C.
 
• Elon went 1-1 last week after sweeping Davidson (25-19, 26-24, 25-16) on Saturday in the team’s fifth-annual Dig Pink match.
• Freshman Danielle Smith had a breakout weekend after recording 16 kills off 38 attempts with only two errors to hit .368.
• The Phoenix will be in search of its first win in Greenville, S.C., since 1980 on Saturday. Last season, Elon defeated Furman, 3-2, in Jordan Gym for its first win over Furman in six years.
 
Women’s Tennis
Elon at ITA Regionals, Friday – Sunday, Oct. 20 – 23, Chapel Hill, N.C.
 
• The Elon women's tennis team returns to action this weekend for the ITA Regionals in Chapel Hill, N.C.
• The Phoenix won five total titles at the Elon Invitational in its last competition, including two by Briana Berne in singles and doubles.
• Elon wraps up its fall season on Nov. 4 – 6 at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
 
Women’s Soccer (5-7-4, 3-3-2 SoCon)
Elon at Appalachian State, Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m., Boone, N.C.
Elon vs. Western Carolina, Sunday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m., Rudd Field (Senior Day)
 
• The Phoenix went 1-1 last week after capturing a 2-1 victory over the Wofford Terriers on Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field.
• Rookie Kim Gardner scored two second-half goals in the win over Wofford. After scoring in the 60th minute to tie the match, Gardner netted the game-winner in the 81st minute to give the Phoenix a 2-1 advantage late.
• Sunday's match against Western Carolina marks the final home match for seniors Andrea Keller and Noell McCain.
