SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today announced its Academic All-Conference team for the 2011 fall season and leading the way with 34 members was the Elon Phoenix program. A total of 297 student-athletes, representing all 12 SoCon institutions, were named to the team.
The 297 student-athletes, which participated in football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's cross country, recorded a 3.63 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Seventeen student-athletes maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA, including Elon cross country runner Katelyn O'Dunne.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the fall season and were required to compete in at least one half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
The league’s 12 women’s soccer programs provided the most academic all-conference members with 75, followed by women’s cross country with 54 and football with 52.
