Elon Places 29 on Spring Academic All-Conference Team


SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its Academic All-Conference team for the 2011 spring season today, June 23. A total of 326 student-athletes, representing all 12 SoCon institutions, were named to the team. Elon landed 29 student-athletes on the team from the Phoenix baseball, softball, women’s outdoor track and field, women’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis programs.

To be eligible, student-athletes must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA entering the spring season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the recently-concluded spring campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

Thirteen SoCon student-athletes have maintained perfect 4.0 cumulative GPAs, including Elon’s Virginia Mayer and #Katelyn O’Dunne#.

Collectively, the conference’s women’s outdoor track and field programs supplied the greatest number of honorees with 92, followed by baseball with 60. The Elon track and field squad led the Phoenix with 14 honorees.

The Phoenix softball team had five representatives, while baseball, men’s tennis and women’s golf all placed three on the team. Women’s tennis had one honoree.
