CHARLESTON, S.C. – The matchup of the Southern Conference’s 2010 North and South Division Champions did not go in favor of the Elon volleyball team as College of Charleston took a 3-0 (15-25, 11-25, 19-25) win today, Sept. 25, in TD Arena. The Phoenix falls to 11-6 (0-2 SoCon), while the Cougars improve to 10-7 (2-0 SoCon).
It was a tough weekend for us,” said head Elon coach
Mary Tendler. “We came off a close and emotional loss on Friday and then ran into a very talented CofC team today. I know the players are working very hard, we’re just not executing as often as we need to. I feel good about our ability to bounce back at home next weekend.”
Junior
Carly Ledbetter led Elon with eight kills followed by senior
Traci Stewart who finished with seven. Ledbetter and senior
Caroline Lemke each recorded two blocks to help the defense.
A kill by junior

Kris Harris and a block by Ledbetter and Harris to take a three-point lead, 13-10. After the Cougars came back to tie the set at 14-all, a block by Lemke and freshman
Danielle Smith made the set even once again at 16-all. CofC would end the match on a 9-3 run for a 25-19 third-set victory and the match sweep.
