Elon Announces Changes to Athletic Communications Staff

ELON, N.C. – Elon University Director of Athletics Dave Blank announced the promotion of Dan Wyar to the post of Director of Communications for Athletics, effective Tuesday, March 19. In addition, Chris Rash has been promoted to Associate Director of Communications for Athletics.
 
An assistant director in the Athletic Communications Office for the last three years, Wyar will continue to serve as Elon’s primary communications contact for the men’s basketball, women’s soccer and men’s and women’s tennis teams, while overseeing the athletic department’s social media and design efforts.
 
Prior to coming to Elon in August of 2010, Wyar spent two years as a graduate assistant in the Eastern Michigan University Athletic Media Relations Office in Ypsilanti, Mich. While at EMU, Wyar was the athletic department’s primary media relations contact for the baseball, gymnastics, rowing and cross country teams. He earned a master’s degree from EMU in 2010.
 
A native of Berea, Ohio, Wyar also served for a year as the assistant sports information director at Case Western Reserve University. In addition, Wyar has also worked with the Mid-American Conference, Cleveland Browns and United States Soccer. Wyar earned a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 2007. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
 
Rash joined the Elon staff in October of 2000 as the assistant sports information director. He currently serves as the Phoenix's primary contact for football, baseball and men's and women's golf. Rash also oversees the elonphoenix.com website, department archives, student staff and athletics photography.
 
Rash has previously served as Elon's primary contact for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball and softball programs. He has also previously acted as the coordinator for the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State Baseball Team.
 
The Laurel, Del., native began his career in media relations while a student at nearby High Point University. Rash graduated from High Point in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in English with a media concentration. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
 
Rash and his wife, Michelle, reside in Gibsonville, N.C., with their daughter, Ainsley.
