Sixth Annual Phoenix Field Day to Take Place Saturday

Phoenix Field Day Information

ELON, N.C. – Elon University student-athletes are preparing to host one of the year’s biggest days of fun on the school’s campus. Saturday, May 4, will mark the sixth annual Phoenix Field Day sponsored by the Elon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Children from throughout the community and several local organizations like the Burlington Housing Authority, Alamance County YMCA, Boys & Girls Club and C.H.A.M.P.S. Mentoring program are expected to participate in this year’s event. Couple that with almost 100 Elon student-athletes and the day is bound to be one full of energy and excitement.

The day will begin with the traditional, giant game of duck-duck-goose in front of Elon’s Koury Athletic Center. From there, a scavenger hunt is planned through campus to help everyone learn more about Elon.

The fun will continue at Hunt and Tucker Fields where everyone will rotate through stations that include putt-putt, tennis, tug-of-war, soccer, water balloons and ultimate football.

After a fun surprise, the crew will make their way to Hunt Softball Park for an autograph session with the Elon softball team. While enjoying lunch and snow cones, Phoenix fans of all ages will cheer on the maroon and gold as it takes on the Chattanooga Lady Mocs at 1 p.m.

Senior football player Blake Thompson is overseeing the event for the second year and is looking forward to it more than ever.

“Phoenix Field Day is an opportunity to unveil our student-athletes to the community outside of the lines on a field or a court,” said Thompson. “It allows our youth to see that they are just like us. We love to laugh and they love to laugh. We like to play games and so do they. We also love snow cones (as does everyone). Our community supports us in every way and Phoenix Field Day is our chance to give back to our young fans who support us, admire us and love us.”

All 1st-8th graders in the community are welcome to attend. Contact Thompson at bhompson11@elon.edu or 410-370-5741 to register. Lunch and t-shirts will be provided to all participants.
