Phoenix Sweeps The Citadel in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
With a solid performance across the board today, March 23, the 39th-ranked Elon University men's tennis team defeated The Citadel 7-0 at the Earle Tennis Center.
 
No Elon player dropped more than five games in his respective match on the way to the sweep with Brian Kowalski dropping just one game and Juan Madrid losing two. Kowalski was first off the court for Elon with his 6-1, 6-0 victory on court No. 4. He was followed by Madrid on court No. 6, who beat Connor Grady 6-0, 6-2.
 
After faltering in his last match against Radford, Jordan Kaufman rebounded nicely with a 6-1, 6-4 victory on court No. 5 over Oliver Dedding. He was followed by Robert Lindgren, who earned a 6-2, 6-2 win on court No. 3 over Peter Bleach.
 
Cameron Silverman, ranked No. 38 in the country, also rebounded from a tough outing against Radford with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court No. 1 over Elliot Sperr.
 
Stefan Fortmann, the Southern Conference's back-to-back Player of the Week, clinched the sweep of the Bulldogs with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court No. 2 over Dillon Berkabile. Fortmann has now won six straight singles matches for the Phoenix.
 
Elon started the match by winning the doubles point with an 8-3 win from Silverman and Kaufman on court No. 1 and a 8-0 sweep from Madrid and Fortmann on court No. 3. Kowalski and Lindgren dropped their match on court No. 2 by a score of 8-6.
 
Elon continues its brief two-match road trip Tuesday, March 25, in Statesboro, Ga. when it meets the Georgia Southern Eagles. The match is set for 2:30 p.m.
