FLORENCE, S.C. – Susannah Anderson and
Taylor Glenn each scored twice in the second half as the Elon University women's soccer team earned a 6-0 victory at Francis Marion on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Hartzler Field.
"Francis Marion made things very difficult for us in the first half," said head coach
Chris Neal. "Their head coach Lindsey Morgan had the team very well organized and they controlled the tempo in the first half. In the second half, were able to bounce back and execute on goal scoring chances. I'm proud of the way we finished against an organized team on the road."
With the victory, Elon improves to 8-2-2 overall for the season and ended its non-conference slate on a solid note. Francis Marion falls to 2-12 overall with the loss.
The HighlightsElon struck first in the 14
th minute as
Mel Insley scored her third free kick of the season to give the Phoenix a 1-0 advantage. The Patriots fouled the Phoenix 23 yards near the top left of the box to set up the senior with another free kick opportunity.
Kendall Ballotti guided in a corner kick with a thumping header scored in the 35
th minute to extend Elon's lead 2-0 heading into the half.
Alexis de Groot played in a corner that found Ballotti on the back left post for her third goal of the year. Elon created plenty of chances in the first stanze, outshooting Francis Marion 13-1 in the period.
After several minutes of opportunities in the first 16 minutes of the second half, Anderson took one away from the Patriots' goalkeeper to extend Elon's lead 3-0 in the 62
nd minute.
The Phoenix would go on to score three goals in the final 10 minutes of the match. Anderson tallied her second of the match off a cross from
Alissa Pantuosco in the 81
st minute, and Glenn scored just under a minute later to make the score 5-0. The goal was Glenn's first of the season.
In the 89
th minute, Glenn wrapped up the scoring, finishing a pass from
Grace Bennett inside the box to complete Elon's 6-0 win.
Match Notes- Elon earned its seventh shutout of the season against Francis Marion.
Taylor Mohr played in just over 81 minutes for the Phoenix.

Julie Hibberd saw action in goal for the first time in her career. She has now registered minutes at all 11 positions on the field for her four-year Elon career.
- The Phoenix outshot the Patriots 26-2 in the match, equaling the number of chances taken and given up in both halves (13-1).
Up NextElon hosts another CAA weekend at Rudd Field. On Friday, Oct. 9, the Phoenix host UNCW at 7 p.m., followed by College of Charleston for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m.
