ELON, N.C. – Early goals from
Kendall Ballotti and
Tori Baliatico would prove to be the difference as the Elon University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory against South Carolina State on Thursday, Sept. 29, at Rudd Field.
With the win, the Phoenix improves to 6-5-1 overall heading into the final stretch of conference play. South Carolina State falls to 2-9-1 overall with the loss.
HIGHLIGHTS
After the Phoenix earned an early corner kick,
Sydney Schilling executed the opportunity and found an unmarked Ballotti on the back post in the 13
th minute. The junior defender took a first-time shot and gave the Phoenix the 1-0 advantage.
Baliatico would extend Elon's lead, 2-0, in the 30
th minute with an acrobatic finish off a perfect cross from
Amanda Lasater. The Phoenix would go into halftime with the lead after holding the Bulldogs scoreless.
South Carolina State tried to make a push for a goal in the second period, showing some physicality and creating dangerous chances in the final 45 minutes. Despite the Bulldogs getting off six shots in the second half, including four on frame, the Phoenix held on for the 2-0 victory.
Elon goalkeeper
Taylor Mohr helped preserve a shutout for the Phoenix making four saves in the second half and six saves in the match.

The Phoenix continues conference play on Sunday, Oct. 2, with a road matchup at William & Mary. Kickoff against the Tribe is set for 2 p.m.
