• Junior running back Malcolm Summers ran for a career-best 178 yards and a touchdown on a personal-high 30 carries to help key Elon's 19-17 victory over No. 16 Charleston Southern on Saturday night in Elon's home-opener inside Rhodes Stadium. Summers became the first Phoenix back to rush for at least 150 yards since A.J. Harris ran for 163 yards at Chattanooga in Oct. 2010.
• Two other Elon players scored the first touchdowns of their careers against the Bucs. Kortez Weeks hauled in a 28-yard pass from Davis Cheek for Elon's first TD of the game, while Cheek later ran the ball in from eight yards out for Elon's final score of the night.
• The Phoenix will open CAA Football play this weekend by visiting Richmond, a Top 10 foe. Elon will play for its first-ever win over the Spiders. With a victory, the Phoenix will have won three straight games for the first time since 2010.
 
Cross Country
Not in competition this week
• Elon competed last Friday, Sept. 15, in the adidas XC Challenge at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course. It was the first meet for the Phoenix since its season opener on Sept. 2 in the Elon Opener.
• The Elon women's team finished seventh overall at the competitive meet, scoring 175 points. Senior Brigid Brennan led Elon for the second straight race, clocking a time of 17:54.7 in the 5K race, nearly matching her personal-best.
• In the men's 6K run, Elon was 10th at the meet with 263 points scored. Richie Kasper led the way for the maroon and gold with his time of 20:06.0 in the 6K run.

• Elon continues its unbeaten streak to start the year with a pair of home games this week against NC State on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and James Madison on Saturday, Sept. 23 in its Colonial Athletic Association home opener.
• The Phoenix earned a pair of 1-1 draws on the road in its last two games at Charlotte and Hofstra in its CAA opener. Freshman Ronni Mleczkovicz scored a goal in both games and is tied for the team lead in total points with six.
• Defensively, Elon has only conceded two goals on the year in 600 minutes played. The Phoenix posted a program-best 484-minute shutout streak against its opponents dating back to last season before seeing that streak snapped at Charlotte last Tuesday, Sept. 12.

• Elon will compete in two tournaments this weekend, hosting the Elon Invitational at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center while sending Felipe Sarrasague to Malibu, Calif., to play in the Oracle ITA Masters. 
• Draws for this weekend's Elon Invitational will be available later in the week. Action at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center is free for all spectators.
• The Phoenix had a strong weekend in Cary, N.C., at the Duke James Bonk Invite, with Neal Port and Salvador Mijares winning the B Doubles draw title and three singles players reaching the semifinals of their respective draws. Jacob Bicknell took down second-seeded Michael Ogden of NC State in his first match on the way to reaching the B Singles semifinals. Port and Mijares topped the top two seeds in the B Doubles draw on the way to the title. Together, the two have now won 16 consecutive decisions dating back to Feb. 18 of the 2017 spring season. 
 
Women's Golf
Elon at Boston College Intercollegiate | Sunday-Monday, Sept. 24-25 | Canton, Mass.
• The Elon women's golf team will play in its second tournament of the fall when it travels to Massachusetts to participate in the Boston College Intercollegiate at the Blue Hill Country Club.
• The field features 16 schools, including Top 100 programs FIU (No. 75) and Boston College (No. 79).
• In its first event of the year, The Ocean Course Invitational, Elon was led by freshman Adel Vadkerti, who finished eight-over par to tie for 22nd individually.

• The Phoenix opens CAA play this week by hosting a pair of home matches against UNCW and James Madison. Elon comes into conference play on a four-match winning streak.
• Elon will host Latin Night on Thursday night against UNCW. The evening will be dedicated to the celebration of Hispanic Heritage month. The match will be full of Latin music, Hispanic food and the game of soccer. The event at Rudd Field will start at 6 p.m.
• Through 10 matches, 13 different players have scored Elon's 23 total goals this season, which is the third-most number of players to score in a season during the program's Division I era that dates back to 1999. Only the 2013 (15) and 2012 (14) teams had more players get on the scoresheet during the season.
 
Women's Tennis
Not in competition this week
• The Phoenix opened the fall season over the weekend hosting the Elon Fall Invitational and competing in the Duke James Bonk Invite.
• Alex Koniaev highlighted the weekend for the Phoenix, winning the Gold Singles title at the Elon Fall Invitational at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. She also reached the final in the Gold Doubles draw with Kirsten Ward, but fell in the title match on Sunday.
• Elon returns to the courts at the Wake Forest Invitational from Oct. 6-8 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
Volleyball (10-4, 0-0 CAA)

• Set to open its fourth season of Colonial Athletic Association play, Elon will contest each of its first four conference matches at home in Alumni Gym starting Friday night, Sept. 22 against undefeated Towson. The Phoenix will turn around quickly to face Delaware just 24 hours later on Saturday night, Sept. 23.
• Towson enters conference play with a perfect 14-0 mark. It has already traveled to North Carolina twice this season, going 3-0 in both the season-opening Western Carolina Tournament against Jacksonville State, Western Carolina and Charleston Southern and the Appalachian Invitational a week later against Appalachian State, Virginia and East Tennessee State. On the flip side, Delaware lost each of its first seven matches of the season before going 2-1 last weekend at the George Washington Tournament. 
• Elon went 2-1 in its final tournament of the season, the Tussle in the Triad. On Friday, Sept. 15, the Phoenix rallied from two sets down to defeat Navy in a thriller in Alumni Gym. On Saturday, Elon swept UNCG at home in a highly competitive match before falling in the nightcap to High Point on the road.
• Prior to the loss at High Point, Elon had won seven matches in a row dating back to Sept. 2 at Liberty.
