ELON, N.C. – Every Monday, Phoenix fans can get a look at the week ahead with our "Elon Athletics Weekly Update" feature when we will preview all the week's upcoming events for our sports teams.
          
Men's Basketball (3-5, 0-0 CAA)
Elon vs. Canisius | Sunday, Dec. 16 | 2 p.m. | Schar Center

• The Phoenix completes its five-game homestand and its non-conference home slate following exam week on Sunday, Dec. 16, at Schar Center against Canisius at 2 p.m.
• Elon dropped both of its games last week with a loss to No. 25 Furman on Tuesday and a narrow 75-74 defeat against defending SoCon champion UNCG on Friday.
• Tyler Seibring has scored 1,419 career points and now ranks 15th in program history following his season-high 26 points against UNCG.
• Steven Santa Ana has scored in double figures in nine of 10 games this season. He also leads the team in rebounding with 6.8 per contest. 
• Elon will complete the non-conference portion of its schedule next week with road trips to Kennesaw State on Tuesday, Dec. 18, and UMKC on Saturday, Dec. 22.
 
Women's Basketball (4-5, 0-0 CAA)
Not in competition this week.
• The Phoenix will break for final exams this week before returning to the court to host North Carolina A&T next Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Schar Center. 
• Elon won two of its three games this past week with victories at Hampton and at home versus Davidson. In the win over Hampton, Emily Maupin had career highs with 21 points and 15 rebounds, becoming the first Phoenix player to post a 20-point, 15-rebound game since Kelsey Evans in 2011.
• Ariel Colón had a double-double in the Phoenix's 73-72 overtime victory over Davidson with 16 points and 12 rebounds. It was the sophomore's third double-double of the season. She leads the Phoenix with 7.4 boards per game. Fellow sophomore Saadia Munford tied her career-high with 15 points against the Wildcats while going 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
 
Women's Track and Field
Not in competition this week.
• The Phoenix opened its 2018-19 indoor season at the JDL College Kickoff Saturday, Dec. 1, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
• Among the notable athletes that stood out at the meet included senior Katie Arbogast, who ran a time of 58.23 in the 400-meters and finished third. Lauren Brzozowski also finished third in the 200-meters with her time of 25.73 and rookie Blythe Hehmeyer broke into the program's top-five performance list in the pole vault with her cleared height of 10' 6" (3.20m).
• Elon is off for the rest of December and will return to indoor action at the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 19-20, in Winston-Salem.
