ELON, N.C. – Elon University rookie kicker
Skyler Davis was tabbed a HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-American Monday, Dec. 17, to mark the second-straight season the Phoenix has had a Freshman All-American.
Â
Earning the starting placekicker job in preseason camp, Davis took the assignment and ran with it throughout the season, amassing a team-high 82 points along the way. Hitting 17-of-22 attempted field goals, he was 14-of-15 on tries from inside the 40-yard line while going a perfect 31-for-31 on PATs. Throughout the season, Davis hit a season-best four field goals on the road at No. 16 Maine while connecting on a 46-yard attempt. He also hit a 46-yard field in the home-opener against Furman to set a season high in distance. In Elon's win at No. 2 James Madison, Davis recovered an onside kick after Elon's first touchdown of the day.
Â
Davis is the second kicker in Elon's Division I run to earn All-America accolades of any kind. Placekicker Andrew Wilcox was the first Phoenix kicker to earn All-America honors in earning multiple recognitions in 2008.
Last season, wide receiver
Kortez Weeks earned Second Team Phil Steele Freshman All-America honors after a highly-successful first season in maroon and gold.
