ELON, N.C. – Each week, Phoenix fans can get a look at the week ahead with our "Elon Athletics Weekly Update" feature when we will preview all the week's upcoming events for our sports teams.
 
Football
Not in competition this week.
• Elon cruised to its second-largest victory over a nationally-ranked foe at the Division I level on Saturday, topping No. 15 Delaware 42-7 at Rhodes Stadium to end a three-game losing skid and head into the first of two open dates on the schedule on a high note.
• Quarterback Davis Cheek completed 88 percent of his passes in going 22-for-25 on the day for a season-high 259 yards and a touchdown. The junior was a perfect 13-for-13 in the second half in helping Elon score 35 of its 42 points after halftime.
• Greg Liggs, Jr., returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter to help pad the Elon lead. The return gives Elon two pick-sixes in as many seasons.
• Tickets to Elon's two remaining home games, including Homecoming on Nov. 2, are available by visiting the Elon Ticket Office at Schar Center, by calling (336) 278-6750 or online at elonphoenix.com/tickets.
   
Cross Country
Elon at ECU Pirate Invitational
Friday, Oct. 18 | 4 p.m. | Grimesland, N.C.
• The Phoenix cross country programs close out their regular seasons at the ECU Pirate Invitational this Friday with the women's 6K starting at 4 p.m. followed by the men's 8K at 4:40 p.m.
• Last season, the Phoenix women won the meet at the Pirate Invitational. Elon scored 40 points to take the team title while the maroon and gold men were third overall with 84 points.
• Last week, members of the programs raced at the Royals XC Challenge on Friday, Oct. 11. Rookie Aidan Tierney clocked the third-fastest time in school history in the men's 8K as he ran a time of 24:33 and was 16th overall out of 519 competitors.
 
Men's Golf
Elon vs. Phoenix Invitational
Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 14-15 | Alamance Country Club
• Elon returns to its home course to host the Fifth Annual Phoenix Invitational this Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14-15 at Alamance Country Club. The team is looking to win the tournament for the third-consecutive year.
• Last time out, the Phoenix carded a two-over par 290 through the final 18 holes and combined for a three-round score of 865 (+1) at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Graham Hutchinson and William Frodigh both shot a two-under par 214 to tie for 15th. Frodigh also set a new career low with a four-under 68 in the second round on Saturday.
• Action at Alamance Country Club starts Monday morning with two rounds of golf being played Monday before Tuesday's final round tees off first thing in the morning.
 
Men's Soccer

• Elon hosts a pair of games this week, welcoming No. 21 Duke to Rudd Field on Tuesday with that match being streamed in FloSports. The Phoenix wraps up the week with a contest against Northeastern on Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association play.
• The Phoenix went 1-1 last week, earning a win on the road at Liberty on Saturday by a score of 2-0. Valdimar Jonsson scored his third goal of the season in that contest while keeper Peter Wentzel earned his first career shutout.
• Saturday's game against Northeastern will be Senior Night as the program will recognize its 11 graduating players of Nick Adamczyk, Josh Blank, Iñigo Bronte, Jimmy Contino, Nicholas Graves Sam Loeffler, Alex Lorne, Luke Matthews, Caner Snover, Tuki Tayali and John Walden.
 
Men's Tennis
Elon at ITA Carolina Regionals
Friday-Tuesday, Oct. 18-22 | Cary, N.C.
• The Phoenix will travel to Cary, N.C. for the ITA Carolina Regionals from Oct. 18 to Oct. 22.
• Last season, Kyle Frankel finished with a team-best four wins against USC Upstate, NC State, Charlotte, and Wake Forest at the ITA Carolina Regionals. Jacob Bicknell also earned a first-round win in the singles main draw. In doubles play, Camilo Ponce and former teammate Taylor Foote upset No. 16-seeded Michael Ogden and Colin Shick of NC State to advance to the second round of the main draw.
• Elon last competed in the UNCG Invitational on Oct. 12 and 13. Nicholas Condos and Kyle Frankel were named the doubles champions after finishing the weekend 3-0. In singles play, Frankel, Condos, Sam Dively, and Bicknell each picked up a pair of wins.
 
Women's Golf
Elon at Palmetto Intercollegiate
Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 13-15 | Kiawah Island, S.C.
• Elon opened its final competition of the fall season Sunday at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.
• Competing against a field with the likes of Coastal Carolina, Fresno State, North Florida, Troy, College of Charleston, Boston College, Kansas and others, Elon shot 22-over on Day 1.
• The final two rounds of the tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday.

• The Phoenix continues conference play this week when it travels to Charleston, S.C., for a matchup with College of Charleston on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Elon will then return home to take on James Madison at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.
• Elon currently sits at or near the top of the Coastal Athletic Association conference in multiple categories so far this season. The Phoenix ranks first in the CAA in goals scored (34), while ranking second in goal differential (+14), and in overall winning percentage (.714). 
• After taking on James Madison, Elon will enter the final week of the regular season with one more home game in the finale on Sunday, Oct. 27, against Northeastern.
 
Women's Tennis
Not in competition this week.
• The Phoenix hosted its annual Jimmy Powell Invitational from Oct. 5-6, marking the second tournament Elon has hosted this fall season.
• Sofia Edo led the way for Elon, winning all of her singles matches throughout the tournament. Edo rounded out the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record in singles action.
• In doubles action, Alex Koniaev and Uma Nayar finished up doubles play with a perfect 2-0 record. After winning the finals of their doubles flight at the Elon Fall Invitational earlier this season, Koniaev and Nayar moved to 6-0 as a tandem this season.
 
Volleyball

• Elon hosted three of the CAA's top teams over the weekend and earned a victory Saturday over Delaware in five sets to close the three-matches-in-four-days stretch with a 4-3 mark in conference action.
• Leah Daniel has been on a roll of late, posting double-digit kills in 15 straight matches to date.
• This week, Elon will close its non-conference slate on Wednesday, Oct. 16, with a 6 p.m. road match at N.C. Central before hosting William & Mary this weekend on Sunday at 1 p.m. inside Schar Center.
