RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University sophomore
Leah Daniel has been named to the All-CAA First Team, as announced by the league office Thursday morning, Nov. 21.
Â
"Leah has worked very hard during the off-season to improve in all areas of her game, so it is good to see her get recognized for her efforts," said Elon head coach
Mary Tendler. "She has been a very consistent player for us this season and has come through in some clutch moments to help us win matches. I know Leah would agree with me that her teammates were very instrumental in helping her earn this award."
A Zionsville, Ind. native, Daniel led the Phoenix this season with 454 kills and 3.88 kills per set and added 16 service aces, four assists, 127 digs, and 65.0 blocks (seven solo) to her totals. She picked up All-Tournament Team selections at the Robert Morris Sheraton Invitational and the UVA Jefferson Cup and was tabbed the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30 as she helped Elon to its best start in league play since joining the conference in 2014. In wins over Hofstra and Northeastern, she hit .239 with 35 kills (3.89/set), two service aces, nine digs, five blocks (one solo), and 40.0 points. Daniel reached double-digit kills in all but three matches during the regular season and had a streak of 18 matches with double-figure scoring. As of Nov. 20, she ranks 22nd in the nation in both kills and total points (506.0) and is 36th in total attacks (1,170). She is also second in the league with 10.00 attacks per set.
Daniel and the Phoenix (13-17, 7-9 CAA) enter the 2019 CAA Conference Championship as the No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 Northeastern in a 4 p.m. opening-round match this Friday, Nov. 22 at Hofstra's David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
