AUSTIN, Texas - Elon University men's basketball senior forward Tyler Seibring has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America team for the third straight season, as announced Monday afternoon, March 11, by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Seibring becomes the first student-athlete in Elon men's basketball history to be named a three-time Academic All-American. The only other three players in program history to have multiple selections were Drew Van Horn '82, Brian Branson '88, and Chris Kiger '98 as they collected the honor twice.
 
The recognition is the program's 14th overall Academic All-America selection and he is one of eight student-athletes overall in team history to earn the award. Seibring is also Elon's first repeat Academic All-American since the program became a NCAA Division I program in 1999.
 
Seibring maintains a 3.95 GPA as an English and Economics double major in the classroom and is a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi academic honor societies. He was named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District 3 Men's Basketball Team on Feb. 21 to qualify for the Academic All-America selection. The award is one of numerous accolades for Seibring this season. He was also named the 2018-19 Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second time in his career, an All-CAA Second Team selection for the third straight season and was a one of the final 30 candidates for the 2018-19 Senior CLASS Award.
 
The Normal, Ill., native put together a fantastic senior season for the Phoenix as he averaged a team-high 16.5 points and added 5.9 rebounds per contest. Seibring bettered his numbers during conference play, averaging 17.1 points and 6.6 rebounds against CAA opponents. He scored in double figures in 27 of the team's 32 games this season and scored 20 or more points in a career-best 11 games.  Seibring also shot the ball 48.2 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three and 80 percent from the free throw line.
 
Seibring concludes his career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history. He finishes his career as the program's NCAA Division I leader in points and rebounds, while also becoming the first NCAA Division I player in the program's history to rank in the top-10 in both scoring and rebounding. His 1,794 career points ranks sixth on the program's all-time scoring list, while his 779 rebounds places 10th in Elon men's basketball history. Additionally, he ranks second in three-pointers made (278) and eighth in blocked shots (81).
 
His Academic All-America honor adds to a vast collection of awards, which includes the 2017-18 Colonial Athletic Association's Dean Ehlers Leadership Award and the 2016-17 CAA Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade. Since coming to campus, Seibring has been a member of the President's List every semester and a three-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Award winner.
 
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's games, be of sophomore standing athletically and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher.
