• Elon football will welcome The Citadel for Hall of Fame Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 7, for its home opener at Rhodes Stadium with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
• The Phoenix met nationally-ranked foe North Carolina A&T over the weekend in Greensboro and fell 24-21 on a last-second, 52-yard field goal.
• On the day, Davis Cheek completed 16-of-27 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown. De'Sean McNair scored two touchdowns on the ground to mark his fourth-career game with multiple rushing touchdowns. 
• Season tickets for Elon's five home games are still on sale. This fall, Elon will host four teams that are nationally ranked in the preseason polls in The Citadel, James Madison, Delaware and Maine while hosting William & Mary for Homecoming on Nov. 2.
   
Cross Country
Not in competition this week.
• The Elon cross country programs opened their 2019 seasons last Friday, Aug. 30, with the annual home meet, the Elon Opener. The event welcomed 13 teams, marking its largest field to date at the meet.
• The Phoenix women took first at the Elon Opener with 56 points and edged out North Carolina and Campbell. Elon's Scolasticah Kemei won the individual title in the women's 4K with a time of 14:10 and was one of three Phoenix female harriers to finish in the top-10.
• On the men's side, Elon was fifth overall as a team at the Elon Opener. The Phoenix garnered 157 total points and was led individually by sophomore Andrew Miller. Miller was 23rd overall in the men's 6k with a time of 19:29.3.
 
Men's Golf
Elon at Golfweek Program Challenge
Sept. 8-10 | Myrtle Beach, S.C.
• Elon opens its fall season in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the Golfweek Program Challenge on Sept. 8-10. It marks the first time in three years that the team will compete in the tournament, having last played on Sept. 11-13, 2016, when it was hosted at the True Blue Golf Course on Pawley's Island, S.C.
• The Phoenix brings back eight competitors from last season, including All-CAA Tournament honoree in Graham Hutchinson. New to the team this year is Bronson Myers, who was the number one ranked junior in South Carolina and a Top 50 player in the nation for his signing class.
 
Men's Soccer
Elon vs. Rutgers
Saturday, Sept. 7 | Rudd Field | 7 p.m.

• The Phoenix welcomes Big Ten foe Rutgers to Rudd Field for its home opener on Saturday night, Sept. 7. Last season, the Phoenix defeated the Scarlet Knights in New Jersey, 8-1, and set a new Division I program record for goals scored in a game.
• Elon is coming off an undefeated slate at the John Rennie/Nike Invitational this past weekend at Duke. The Phoenix opened the tournament with a 3-2, come-from-behind win versus CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Aug. 30, before closing out the weekend with a 3-3 draw versus Furman.
• The Phoenix had three members of its team earn All-Tournament team accolades this weekend in sophomores Valdi Jonsson and Christian Lauenborg and senior John Walden.
 
Women's Golf
Elon at Golfweek Program Challenge
Sept. 8-10 | Myrtle Beach, S.C.
• Elon women's golf will start its fall campaign at the Golfweek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C., set for Sept. 8-10. It will be the first time the maroon and gold plays in the tournament since Sept. 11-13, 2016.
• The team will host its inaugural Phoenix Invitational on its home course this year. The invite is scheduled for Sept. 23-24 at Alamance Country Club.
• The Phoenix has 10 returners from last season, including All-CAA Second Team selection Adel Vadkerti. Elon has three newcomers in Emily Cohen, Emily Nash, and Svarin Yuenyong.

• The Phoenix travels to Richmond, Va., for an afternoon matchup with the Richmond Spiders before returning home to take on UNC Asheville. Last season, Elon defeated Richmond 2-0 at Rudd Field. Elon's last outing against UNC Asheville was during the 2017 season in which the Phoenix was able to secure a 2-1 road victory.
• So far this season, Elon has jumped out to a 3-1 start. Along the way, the Phoenix has defeated Canisius (1-0), High Point (1-0) and Radford (2-1). Elon's lone loss this season came in a road matchup with Furman. Richmond is currently 1-1-1 this season, while UNC Asheville has started 1-2.
• Carson Jones leads the team with two goals and four points. Bethany Harford and Taylor Paradoski have each chipped in one goal, while Hannah Doherty leads the team in assists with two. Katrin Hauksdottir is 3-1 in goal for the Phoenix this season, making six saves along the way.

• Elon opened its season this past weekend at the RMU Sheraton Invitational, where the team went 1-2 and earned its first win of the season with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Manhattan.
• All three matches at the invitational went to five sets, marking the first time in program history Elon has opened its season with three consecutive five-set matches.
• Leah Daniel was named to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 58 kills, two service aces, eight digs, seven blocks, and 64.5 points. The sophomore from Zionsville, Ind. set a new career record with 21 kills against the host Colonials on Friday night, then bettered that effort with 27 kills in the win over the Jaspers on Saturday.
• This week, the Phoenix will be in Lynchburg, Va. for the Liberty Invitational on Sept. 6-7. The maroon and gold faces Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. to open the tournament this Friday. The team then plays the host Lady Flames on Saturday at 10 a.m. and rounds out play against Davidson at 4 p.m.
