RICHMOND, Va. - Elon University volleyball's
Leah Daniel received her first career weekly honor on Monday afternoon, Sept. 30 as the Colonial Athletic Association selected the sophomore as its Offensive Player of the Week. She is the second Phoenix to be named a CAA Player of the Week this season after teammate
Jenn Krzeminski garnered Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 16.
Â
A native of Zionsville, Ind., Daniel led Elon's offense to its best start in league play since joining the conference in 2014. In wins over Hofstra and Northeastern this past weekend, she hit .239 with 35 kills (3.89/set), two service aces, nine digs, five blocks (one solo), and 40.0 points. She tallied 14 kills in a 3-1 win over the defending CAA champion Pride to open conference play last Friday. Down 2-0 to the Huskies on Sunday, she helped spark a three-set response by the Phoenix as she converted 21-of-49 attacks (.327). It marked the fourth time this season she has eclipsed 20 kills. She has also reached doubled-digit kills in 10 consecutive matches and 14-of-15 matches this year. The effort also moved her past the 400-career kills mark. Daniel added one ace, five digs, and three blocks (one solo) against Northeastern.
Â
Daniel and the Phoenix continue league play this weekend with trips to Charleston, S.C. and Wilmington, N.C. The maroon and gold will play the Cougars (3-10, 0-1) in a 7 p.m. match this Friday, Oct. 4 prior to heading north for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 6.
