LYNCHBURG, Va. – Elon University volleyball returns to action this weekend as the maroon and gold plays in the Liberty Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6-7. The Phoenix (1-2) opens the tournament Friday night at 6 p.m. against Virginia Tech. The next morning sees the team starting with a 10 a.m. match with the tournament hosts, then wrapping up the trip at 4 p.m. versus Davidson.

SERIES HISTORY
-vs. Virginia Tech: Elon and Virginia Tech are meeting for the first time since 2015 in a series that sees the Hokies (1-2) in control, 3-0.
-vs. Liberty: The Lady Flames (0-2) are ahead 21-3 in the series. Elon snapped Liberty's three-match run in the series with a 3-1 score on Sept. 2, 2017, the last meeting between the teams.
-vs. Davidson: Elon holds a slight 12-11 edge in the all-time series and is looking to win its third match in a row over the Wildcats (1-2) after a straight-set decision on Sept. 8, 2015 and a 3-1 final on Sept. 6, 2016.
PHOENIX GOES THE DISTANCE AT RMU
-Elon opened the 2019 season at the Robert Morris Sheraton Invitational last weekend, where the team went 1-2 and earned a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Manhattan.
-For the first time in program history, the Phoenix played three five-set matches to begin a season.

Leah Daniel earned All-Tournament Team honors after scoring 58 kills. The sophomore out of Zionsville, Ind. hit .234 on the weekend and added an assist, two service aces, eight digs, and seven blocks to her totals. In last Friday's match against the host Colonials, she set a new career high with 21 kills. She then bettered that effort with 27 kills in the win over the Jaspers.

Elon will host North Carolina Central for the team's home opener next Tuesday, Sept. 10. First serve between the Phoenix and the Lady Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Schar Center.
