Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day With 3-0 Win Over UNCW

ELON, N.C. – For the second time in as many days, Elon University volleyball earned a 3-0 win over UNCW on Sunday, Oct. 17 at Schar Center. The match marked Senior Day for the Phoenix (13-7, 8-2 CAA) and the team recognized Ashlee Brackett, Natalie Cummins, Julia Crabtree and Kellyn Trowse before first serve.

"We really proved this weekend that our team is unified from upperclassmen to underclassmen, from position to position and from the sideline to the court," said head coach Mary Tendler. "The sweep this weekend gives us nice momentum going into our back-to-back road swing."

THE RUNDOWN
A Leah Daniel kill and a block by Daniel and Cummins helped the maroon and gold take control of the first set at 6-4. However, the Seahawks (2-17, 1-7) answered with a 3-0 run to wrestle away the lead at 8-7. Both sides continued to trade points until a Haylie Clark kill opened up a 6-0 push by the Phoenix, highlighted by a Jordan Gower service ace and back-to-back kills from Trowse. The offense allowed Elon to create some separation at 23-16. UNCW earned the next two points, but a service error and attacked error have the Phoenix the set, 25-18.

In Set Two, the visitors held a slim 5-4 lead when Clark assisted Crabtree for a kill. The play started a 9-1 swing as Elon jumped out 13-6 and never looked back. The Phoenix ended the set on a 4-0 run, bookended by a pair of Sydney Love scores. The third set was all Elon as the team earned the first seven points. The Phoenix then strung together three 6-0 runs to end the match with a 25-5 decision.
