RICHMOND, Va. - Elon University volleyball's
Sydney Love has been selected the CAA Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon, Oct. 18.
A freshman from Chesapeake, Va., Love swung for a .600 hitting percentage as Elon earned a pair of straight-set victories over UNCW this past weekend at Schar Center. Her totals for the series included 12 kills (3.00/set), three digs, and three blocks (one solo). On Saturday, she hit for .500 with six kills, two blocks and one dig in the 3-0 win. She then hit for .750 with six kills, one block and two digs on Sunday. Her effort helped the Phoenix improve to 13-7 overall and remain atop the CAA standings at 8-2. She is currently second on the team in kills this season with 165 (2.54/set).
This marks the first career weekly honor for Love and the fourth time this season an Elon player has been selected for a weekly honor.
Leah Daniel was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 20 and Sept. 27, and
Haylie Clark was chosen as Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 4.
Love and the Phoenix are on the road this weekend as the team travels to Boston, Mass. for a conference series at Northeastern. Both matches on Oct. 23-24 are scheduled for 2 p.m. starts.
