Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Elon Falls to No. 14 Hofstra on Senior Day

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's soccer team fell to 14th-ranked Hofstra, 2-0, in its final home match of the regular season on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 30, at Rudd Field.

Elon moved to 7-7-2 on the season and fell to 3-2-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association standings. Hofstra improved to 14-1-1 to improve its unbeaten streak to 12 games. The Pride also went to 5-1-1 in the CAA standings.

The Rundown
The Pride scored the first goal of the match in the 18th minute. Hendrik Hebbeker took a ball away from the Phoenix inside the box and was able to send the ball past Peter Wentzel for his fifth goal of the season and an early 1-0 lead for Hofstra.

Hofstra went into the break leading in shots (9-3) with Elon's best chance in the opening half coming with a pair of shots by Jack Dolk in the 26th minute, but neither were on target.

Hebbeker earned the brace in the 69th minute to put the Pride up 2-0. Hofstra stole the ball at midfield with Roc Carles taking the ball to the top of the box and finding Hebbeker on the left side for his sixth goal of the season on a shot that deflected off the far post and into the goal.

In the 80th minute, the Phoenix had a couple of chances to join Hofstra on the scoreboard. Dolk sent a cross into the box where it found the head of Jack Edwards, who was in prime position near the six-yard area in front of the goal. Hofstra's netminder Wessel Speel was able to knock it away before Elon earned a corner kick. The Phoenix could not capitalize on the set piece as the ball went back to the Pride.

Elon had one final shot on goal in the 82nd minute as Kasper Lehm sent a low shot on a counter right into the hands of Speel. The Phoenix would have one more shot attempt in the match on a Mason Duval attempt in the 86th minute, but that try went high over the goal.

Notes
• Hofstra won the shot battle, 16-7, and posted its fourth straight shutout. The Pride also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
• Dolk led the Phoenix with three shots in the match off the bench. Duval was second with two attempts.
• The Pride remain unbeaten in their series with the Phoenix, improving to 6-0-1 all-time dating back to 2014.
• Elon currently sits in sixth in the CAA with its 11 points, just a point outside of the four-team field for the league tournament. Hofstra clinched a spot for the championship with its win today with its 16 points along with second place James Madison (15 points). Northeastern (13 points), UNCW (12 points), William & Mary (12 points) round out the top-five in the standings.

Up Next
The Phoenix travels to William & Mary for its final game of the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 6, in Williamsburg, Va. That match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Elon would need a victory over the Tribe to stay alive to clinch a spot for the CAA Tournament.
