ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball is back in Schar Center this weekend as the Phoenix (10-6, 5-1 CAA) hosts James Madison for a pair of CAA contests this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10. Both matches are scheduled for 2 p.m. starts.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon split its CAA series at Towson last weekend, with both teams winning in four sets in SECU Arena.
- After dropping the first set 25-18 on Saturday, the Phoenix won the the next three for the team's fifth consecutive victory. The win snapped the Tigers' home winning streak at 24 matches.
- Towson returned the favor with a 3-1 decision on Sunday. Elon won the third set 25-21 to avoid the sweep, but came up short in fourth set 25-21.
- The Phoenix offense is led
Leah Daniel, who is up to 235 kills (4.20/set) this season.
Sydney Love is next with 128 kills,
Jenn Krzeminski has 94 and
Natalie Cummins 90.
Haylie Clark is up to 527 assists with 18 aces, Krzeminski has served 20 aces, and
Alex VanWestrienen is next with 17. Gower leads the back row with 245 digs (4.38/set), VanWestrienen and
Kellyn Trowse both have 108, and Clark is close behind with 101. At the net, Cummins leads the maroon and gold with 69 blocks (11 solo) and Cummins has recorded 45.
- Elon is atop the league standings and ranks second in hitting percentage (.241), assists per set (11.41) and kills per set (12.52).
CAA NAMES CLARK OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Clark earned her first career weekly honor on Monday as the CAA tabbed her Offensive Player of the Week.
- The senior from Saint Cloud, Fla. finished the weekend series at Towson with 81 assists (10.13/set), eight kills, a .438 hitting percentage, four service aces, 14 digs and four blocks.
- Clark has now reached double-digit assists in 41 consecutive matches and eclipsed 1,500 career assists over the weekend. She leads the CAA with 9.41 assists per set this week.
- It was the third week in a row an Elon player has been named Offensive Player of the Week. Daniel was selected for the honor on Sept. 20 and Sept. 27.
THE SERIES
- James Madison is ahead 14-1 in the all-time series.
- Elon earned the program's first-ever win over JMU last spring when the Phoenix won in four sets on March 24 in Schar Center.
- Elon was scheduled to host JMU on March 14-15, but the matches were postponed due to COVID-19 testing protocols within the Dukes program.
SCOUTING JAMES MADISON
- JMU was picked to finish second in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll after receiving 54 points and one first-place vote. Additionally, Sophia Davis and Miëtte Veldman were named to the Preseason All-CAA Team.
-The Dukes are 9-3 overall and are second in the conference standings with a 3-1 CAA record. JMU hosted Charleston on Sept. 25-26, falling to the Cougars 3-1 on Saturday before earning a 3-2 victory on Sunday.
- JMU's attack is led by Davis, who owns 126 kills. Not too far behind her are Veldman (116 kills) and Chloe Wilmoth (114 kills). Caroline Dozier is the team's primary setter with 390 assists while Hannah Roberts and Madilyn O'Toole have served 12 and 11 aces, respectively. Savannah Marshall leads the back row with 170 digs, Jaydyn Clemmer is next with 102 digs, and Davis has a team-high 64 blocks.
- The Dukes rank second in the league in opponent hitting percentage (.176) and blocks per set (2.49) and are third in hitting percentage (.215).
UP NEXT
- Elon continues its home stand next weekend when the team welcomes UNCW for two matches on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17. The Phoenix will celebrate its senior class that Sunday.
