Phoenix Set to Host Davidson for Senior Day

ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball returns to Schar Center this Saturday, March 20 as the Phoenix (3-3, 2-2 CAA) hosts Davidson for a non-conference meeting at 2 p.m. The match marks Senior Day for the Phoenix and the team will recognize Morgan Rafferty, Isabella Seman, Madi Genaway and Kodi Garcia.

Live stats will be available, and the match will be streamed on the Elon Phoenix YouTube channel.
 
THE SERIES
- Elon and Davidson are tied at 12-12 in the all-time series dating back to 1986.
- Elon holds an 11-8 advantage dating back to the 2003 season when the teams were members of the Southern Conference.
- The two programs last met on Sept. 7, 2019 in the final match of the Liberty Invitational with Davidson winning in five sets. Kellyn Trowse led the Phoenix with a 16-kill, 13-dig double-double and Leah Daniel was next in scoring with 15 kills. Defensive highlights included eight blocks from Jenn Krzeminski and seven blocks by alum Elizabeth Coil. Elon posted a better hitting percentage (.156 - .153) and recorded more blocks (29-26).
 
PHOENIX DEFEATS UNCG IN STRAIGHT SETS
- Elon captured its third win in a row with a straight-set victory over UNC Greensboro on Thursday night at Fleming Gymnasium.
- The victory marked the fourth consecutive win over the Spartans. However, UNCG still leads the all-time series 36-21.
- Haylie Clark turned in a 17-assist, 13-dig double-double and Daniel paced the attack with 12 kills. Gabi Croll swung for a .316 clip and followed with eight kills, and Krzeminski hit .875 with seven kills. Ericka Link also reached double-digit assists with 10 and Alex VanWestrienen served four aces. On defense, Jordan Gower reached 13 digs while Krzeminski, Natalie Cummins and Croll all recorded two blocks.
- Elon held the advantage in total points (50.0-43.0), kills (39-35), service aces (7-4) and digs (51-45). Both teams recorded four blocks and the Spartans just edged the Phoenix in assists (34-33).

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- As a team, Elon is averaging 11.8 kills, 11.0 assists, 1.6 aces, 14.1 digs and 1.6 blocks per set.
- Daniel leads the Phoenix with 100.5 points and 91 kills (3.79/set).  Clark and Garcia have combined for 216 assists, and VanWestrienen has served a team-high 10 aces. On defense, Gower owns 102 digs (4.25/set), Krzeminski has recorded 20 blocks, and Cummins is close behind with 17.
- Through matches played on March 18, Elon ranks 65th in the nation with 1.62 aces per set. VanWestrienen's 0.43 aces per set and Clark's one triple double this season both rank second in the CAA.
 
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
- Davidson went 10-18 overall and 5-9 in league play during the 2019 season.
- The team returned their top three attackers from last season in Hattie Rodriguez (3.35 kills/set), Annalyse Kitzberger (2.27 kills/set) and Madeline Wynn (2.15 kills/set).
- Davidson was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10's preseason poll.
- The Wildcats are 2-8 overall and 1-7 in conference play. The 'Cats are looking to snap a three-match skid after falling in three sets to Dayton, Duquesne, and Dayton again.
- Davidson's season averages include 9.9 kills, 9.2 assists, 1.0 ace, 14.0 digs and 1.7 blocks per set.
- Remi Lehnertz and Rodriguez pace the attack with 58 and 46 kills, respectively. Sydney Champaigne has tallied 163 assists, Jessie Doyal follows with 116 assists, and three different players have served six aces each. Bella Brady leads the back row with 157 digs, Wynn owns 29 blocks and Lauryn Albold has recorded 23 blocks.

- Elon continues conference play next Wednesday, March 24 as the maroon and gold hosts James Madison for a CAA match. First serve at Schar Center is scheduled for 5 p.m.
