Phoenix Plays at Charleston this Weekend

ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball wraps up the regular season this weekend with a pair of CAA matches at College of Charleston this Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28. Both matches at TD Arena are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.

Live stats will be available, and both matches will be streamed on Charleston volleyball's Twitch account. The Cougars (3-5, 2-4) will also recognize their 2020-21 senior class prior to the start of Sunday's match.
 
THE SERIES
- Charleston holds a 30-3 lead in the all-time series that dates back to 1974.
- Both sides won on the road during the 2019 season. Elon earned a 3-2 victory over the Cougars on Oct. 4 before CofC took a match from the Phoenix 3-1 at Schar Center on Nov. 3.
- Elon's five-set victory was the first over Charleston since a 3-2 win on Oct. 15, 2006.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- The Phoenix is currently second in the CAA South Division at 5-3 overall with a 3-2 mark in league play.
- Elon has won five in a row.
- As a team, Elon is averaging 12.0 kills, 11.2 assists, 1.7 aces, 15.5 digs and 1.7 blocks per set.
- Leah Daniel leads the maroon and gold with 150.0 points and 138 kills (4.18/set). Kodi Garcia has 157 assists, Haylie Clark is close behind with 153, and Alex VanWestrienen is the team's top server with 16 aces. Defensively, Jordan Gower owns 164 digs, Jenn Krzeminksi has a team-high 29 blocks, and Natalie Cummins follows with 21 blocks.
- The Phoenix ranks 38th in the nation with 1.70 aces per set.
- Clark ranks third in the nation with three triple-doubles and VanWestrienen is 29th in the country with 0.50 aces per set.
- Garcia has her eyes set on 3,000 career kills. She enters the weekend with 2,950 in her time as a Phoenix.
 
SCOUTING CHARLESTON
- CofC is coming off a pair of losses at James Madison last weekend, March 20-21. JMU took the first match in five sets before sweeping the Cougars in straight sets in the second meeting.
- Logan Manusky recorded a career-high 35 digs in Saturday's five-set setback to tie for third on the program's single-match list during the rally scoring era. Fellow senior Hazel Brown also put down a season-best 15 kills in the contest.
- CofC is averaging 11.3 kills, 10.4 assists, 1.0 ace, 15.7 digs and 3.2 blocks per set.
- Lexi Wierzbicki owns a team-high 70 kills while Amani Dunston and Tori Carpenter have combined for 292 assists. Brown leads the Cougars with seven aces, Manusky is at 175 digs, and Emma Falk has recorded 56 blocks.
- The Cougars currently lead the nation in blocks per set (3.24) and rank 16th in opponent hitting percentage (.127).

PHOENIX EARNS FIRST-EVER WIN OVER JAMES MADISON
- Clark recorded her second triple-double in as many matches, Garcia turned in a double-double, and Gower tallied 29 digs as Elon defeated James Madison 3-1 on Wednesday, March 24.
- The match marked the first win over the Dukes in program history.
- Clark's numbers included 19 assists, 10 kills and 13 digs. The Saint Cloud, Fla. native also had one service ace and one block. For Garcia, the senior tallied 26 assists and 13 digs. Daniel led the attack with 17 kills, recorded three blocks and had eight digs. Cummins also reached double-digit kills with 11 and ended up with one ace, three blocks and three digs. Gower picked up seven assists to go along with her match-high 29 digs. VanWestrienen continued her strong serving with four aces on the night, and Krzeminski chipped in a team-high four blocks.
- It was Elon's final home match of the season. The Phoenix finished with a 4-1 record when playing on Robertson Court this year.

CAA NAMES DANIEL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- The league office released its weekly honors on Monday and Daniel was selected the CAA's Offensive Player of the Week.
- The Zionsville, Ind. native averaged 5.25 kills and 2.75 digs per set through the two matches.
- She currently leads the CAA with 138 total kills and is third with 4.18 kills per set.

UP NEXT
- The Spring 2021 CAA Championship Tournament will be hosted by Towson on April 1-3 at SECU Arena.
