Elon, N.C. – The Elon University Department of Athletics has created its institutional policy regarding student-athlete activities related to Name, Image and Likeness in accordance with NCAA and CAA legislation, as well as North Carolina Executive Order No. 223. This policy will govern all student-athlete NIL activity until future conference, state, federal or NCAA legislation is instituted.
On June 30, the NCAA took action to adopt an interim NIL policy, deferring regulation to state, conference and institutional policies. The CAA adopted a league-wide policy as well, as announced on July 1. The CAA policy assists member institutions in the development and application of institutional policies associated with NIL opportunities for student-athletes. Finally, North Carolina Executive Order No. 223 was adopted July 2 to address institutional responsibility regarding name, image and likeness compensation of student-athletes.
Key points of legislation includes the prohibition of pay-for-play arrangements and improper recruiting inducements. Ultimately, NIL legislation provides a permissive environment for student-athletes to benefit from exposure related to their intercollegiate experience.
Elon has also announced a partnership with NOCAP Sports to provide a comprehensive NIL platform. NOCAP allows student-athletes to engage with brands to monetize opportunities, while automating compliance rules to proactively protect every student-athletes' eligibility. As well, NOCAP provides an all-inclusive educational portal for NIL success.
