ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- After dropping its home opener to Charlotte last Wednesday, the Phoenix (5-4) responded with straight-set victories over UNC Asheville on Friday and Mercer on Saturday as part of the Aggie/Phoenix Volley for Unity Tournament.

Leah Daniel and
Natalie Cummins represented the maroon and gold on the All-Tournament Team.
- Daniel converted 13-of-25 attempts for a .480 clip in the win over the Bulldogs.
Haylie Clark finished with 34 assists, Cummins recorded five blocks and
Jordan Gower chipped in 14 digs. The match featured just three ties and only one lead change.
- On Saturday against the Bears, Cummins set a new season high with seven blocks while Daniel tallied 13 kills with eight digs and three blocks. The win marked the third straight in the all-time series.
THE SERIES
- UNC is ahead 5-3 in the all-time series and has won five in a row.
- The two programs last met on Sept. 18, 2018 in Schar Center with the Tar Heels taking the match in straight sets.

Kellyn Trowse led the Phoenix with nine kills and a .217 hitting percentage. Kam Terry and Daniel followed with eight kills apiece and
Kodi Garcia contributed 23 assists with a pair of service aces. On the other side of the net, Maddie Jaudon and
Isabella Seman recorded 16 and 12 digs, respectively. Eight different players recorded a block and Cummins led the way with two.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
- UNC is 8-0 entering Tuesday's match.
- The Tar Heels were scheduled to open the ACC-Big Ten Challenge at Michigan State last Friday, but due to health and safety protocols within the Spartan program, the match was canceled. UNC earned a 3-0 non-conference win over Duke on Saturday before rounding out the trip to Ann Arbor, Mich. with a 3-2 victory over the Wolverines.
- UNC was picked to finish seventh in the ACC Preseason Coaches' Poll after receiving 113 points.
- The Tar Heels finished the 2020-21 season tied for sixth in the ACC with a 10-8 record and have six newcomers this season. UNC added three graduate transfers in Nia Parker-Robinson (Northwestern), Meghan Neelon (Alabama) and Emma Reynolds (Cal Poly). Also joining Carolia are freshmen Carson Overbeck, Mabrey Sahffmaster and Marissa Meyerhoefer.
- Robinson and Shaffmaster lead the team in kills with 94 and 93, respectively. Neelon is the primary setter with 202 assists and Kaya Merkler and Karenna Wurl have combined for 15 aces. Wurl has a team-high 113 digs and Merkler owns 37 blocks.
THE SISTERS AUSTIN
- Tuesday's match marks the first-ever meeting between
Presly Austin and older sister, Parker Austin.
- Presly and Parker have another sister, Sydney, who was an outside hitter at the University of Calgary.
