ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball is away this weekend as the Phoenix (1-3) plays at Presbyterian on Friday, Sept. 3 before heading to Furman on Saturday, Sept. 4. Both contests are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon is coming off a 3-0 setback at Duke this past Tuesday, Aug. 31 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
- The Phoenix led 18-11 in the second set, but couldn't hold off the Blue Devils as the hosts took off on a 12-2 run.

Leah Daniel paced Elon's attack with 13 kills and one service ace.
Sydney Love followed with seven kills,
Haylie Clark reached 19 assists, and
Alex VanWestrienen had the team's other ace.
Natalie Cummins,
Kellyn Trowse and
Jenn Krzeminski recorded one block each.
Jordan Gower led the maroon and gold in digs with 17, and Trowse and VanWestrienen were next with eight apiece.
- Elon still leads the all-time series, 8-6. However, the Phoenix falls to 0-3 versus Duke since making the jump to Division I.
- Daniel ranks first in the CAA in kills with 60 (4.29/set). Clark is third in assists (117) and fourth in assists per set (8.36), and Gower ranks third in digs (58) and fifth in digs per set (4.14). VanWestrienen has served a team-high five aces and Krzeminski owns 13.0 blocks.
THE SERIES
- The Blue Hose (2-1) is ahead in the all-time series 15-11, though Elon has won the last three meetings and is 1-0 against PC since moving to Division I.
- Elon opened its 2018 campaign with a 3-1 win over the Blue Hose on Aug. 24 at the Charlotte Invitational. Alumni Kam Terry led the Phoenix with 10 kills to go with seven digs and three blocks. Alexa Pavlick chipped in eight kills with one error to finish with a .412 hitting percentage and registered seven blocks. Elizabeth Coil had six kills with three blocks, Maddie Jaudon totaled 17 digs, and
Kodi Garcia recorded a 33-assist, 11-dig double-double.
- Furman leads Elon 15-6, but the maroon and gold claimed the last meeting 3-1 on Sept. 13, 2019.
- Three players reached double-digit kills: Daniel led the way with 16 and a .386 clip, Nori Thomas was right behind her with 15 and a .312 hitting percentage, and Trowse followed with 13. Garcia tallied 30 assists, while Clark contributed 20 to go along with three service aces. Gower finished with 13 digs, Trowse grabbed seven digs, and Krzeminski finished with six blocks (two solo).
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
- At Georgia Southern's Bash in the Boro on Aug. 27-28, the Blue Hose followed a 3-0 loss to the host Eagles with straight-set victories over Bethune-Cookman and Coppin State.
- PC was picked to finish eighth in the Big South Preseason Coaches' Poll after receiving 43 points.
- Erin Cooke has the team high in kills with 29 (3.22/set). She is followed by Rylee Moorhead with 18 (2.00/set) and Cydni Miller at 16 (2.00/set). Cooke and Kinsey Bailey have combined for 86 assists, and Bailey has served seven assists. Hailey Grocholski owns 10 digs (three solo) and Anna Hewitt is up to 55 digs (6.11/set).
- The Blue Hose returned 12-of-13 players who saw action in the spring. PC posted a 3-13 mark while playing a conference-only schedule, and Cooke and Hewitt were All-Big South Second and Freshman Team honorees, respectively.
SCOUTING FURMAN
- Furman opened its season at UNCW's Hampton Inn University Claasic, bookending a 3-0 loss to Wake Forest with a 3-1 win over North Alabama and a 3-2 victory over the host Seahawks.
- The Paladins (2-1) were picked sixth in the SoCon's Preseason Coaches' Poll with 30 points. Senior middle blocker Neci Harris represented Furman on the Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Furman returned 10 letter winners, to include three starters in Harris, Mikaela Schultz and Maya Mrus, as well as libero Andrea Aceveda.
- Harris and Bella Tolone lead the team with 43 (3.58/set) and 40 (3.33/set) kills, respectively. Sarah Turner is the primary setter with 85 assists (7.08/set), and Ella Abraham and Aceveda have served three aces each. Defensively, Aceveda has 46 digs (3.83/set) and Harris leads the Paladins in blocks with 12.0 (1.00/set).
DANIEL NEARS 1,000 CAREER KILLS
- Daniel eclipsed 900 career kills on Tuesday.
- The Zionsville, Ind. native and CAA Preseason Player of the Year is now 91 kills away from reaching 1,000 in her time as a Phoenix.
