RALEIGH, N.C.— Elon University women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to NC State on Sunday, Sept. 5.
"I'm really proud of the character shown by the players," said head coach
Neil Payne. "Despite us giving up some possession, we hit the crossbar. We hit the post. We had a couple chances. A game like tonight really gets us ready for conference play in a few weeks."
THE RUNDOWN
-Although both teams took a combined 15 shots in the first half, neither one was able to score.
-NC State nearly found the back of the net as time expired. However, the goal was waived as time ran out before the shot was taken, keeping the match scoreless heading into intermission.
-In the 59
th minute, the Wolfpack got on the board to take the 1-0 lead.
-Elon's final opportunity to score came when
Kelly Degnan took a shot on goal in the 83
rd minute, but it was saved by the goalkeeper.
NOTES
-In goal,
McKenna Dalfonso (2-3) finished the night with a season-high five saves and career-high 22 shots faced.
-Five Elon players recorded a shot, Degnan,
Sarah Bevington,
Carson Jones,
Kennedy Jones, and
Samantha Dominguez.
-With the loss, Elon falls to 2-3 on the season.
