ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball is back on its home court this Wednesday, Sept. 8 as the Phoenix (3-3) hosts Charlotte for the team's home opener. First serve at Schar Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon got back in the win column with a pair of 3-0 victories at Presbyterian and Furman this past Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4.
- Strong serving helped in the win over the Blue Hose as
Jenn Krzeminski served four aces,
Alex VanWestrienen and
Jordan Gower finished with two each, and
Kellyn Trowse and
Haylie Clark both had one. The 10 aces marked the most since serving 13 in a 3-1 win over UNCW on March 7 this past spring.
- The Phoenix also tallied 10 blocks vs. PC, led by Krzeminski with four.
- Elon swung for a .355 hitting percentage at Furman, the team's best hitting percentage so far this season. The maroon and gold posted a .467 clip in the opening set and a .417 percentage in Set Two.
- After the opening set against the Paladins featured 14 ties and eight lead changes, Elon led Sets Two and Three from start to finish.

Leah Daniel currently leads the CAA with 83 kills (4.15.set). She is also first in the league and 30th nationally in attacks per set (11.70) and ranks second in the CAA in points per set (4.45).
- Krzeminski is third in the conference in hitting percentage (.413) and fourth in blocks per set (1.20).
- As a team, the Phoenix ranks third in the CAA in both assists per set (11.60) and kills per set (12.65). Elon is also fourth in hitting percentage (.232).
THE SERIES
- Charlotte holds an 8-7 in the all-time series, though Elon is 5-4 versus the 49ers since moving to Division I and has taken the past two meetings.
- The programs are meeting for the first time since Aug. 24, 2018 at the Charlotte Invitational. Elon won in four sets as Trowse led the Phoenix with 16 kills to go along with seven digs and four blocks.
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
- The 49ers (4-2) won 2-of-3 matches at Chicago State's Windy City Classic last weekend. After falling 3-2 to North Dakota State, Charlotte defeated Niagara in straight sets before earning a 3-1 decision against the host Cougars.
- Charlotte was picked to finish second in the Conference USA East Division and freshman outside hitter Emani' Foster was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Sophomore middle blocker Amani McArthur is the reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after recording 24 total blocks at the Windy City Invitational, averaging two blocks per set. She also turned in a .400 hitting percentage for the tournament.
- Charlotte returned its entire 13-player roster from its 2020-21 season and is led by Foster, the reigning Freshman of the Year, and senior outside hitter Sydney Rowan.
- Rowan and Foster have paced the attack with 76 and 71 kills, respectively. Setters Annika Wetterstrom and Annika Thompson have combined for 218 assists while Rowan has served a team-high 11 aces. On defense, freshman Sophie Whalen owns 76 digs while McArthur has recorded 38.0 blocks.
MILESTONE WATCH
- Clark is 27 assists away from reaching 1,200 for her career.
- Gower needs two digs to reach 600 in her time as a Phoenix while Daniel is seven digs away from 300.
- Trowse is one block shy of 300.
UP NEXT
- Elon and North Carolina A&T will co-host the Aggie/Phoenix Volley for Unity Tournament this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-11. Elon opens against UNC Asheville on Friday at 6 p.m., while the Aggies will host N.C. Central for a 6 p.m. match in Greensboro, N.C. Saturday's action begins with a 12 p.m. contest between Mercer and A&T, followed by a 3 p.m. tilt between Asheville and NCCU. The Phoenix then rounds out the tournament with a 6 p.m. meeting with the Bears.
