RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman outside hitter
Brooke Doherty has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon, Oct. 24, as announced by the league office.
Doherty posted a career-high 22 kills (.255 hitting percentage) in Elon's five-set victory against College of Charleston on Sunday. The Holly Springs, N.C., native also attempted 47 attacks on Sunday, her most in a match this season. Sunday's performance came after Doherty tallied 10 kills against the Cougars on Saturday, as she registered double-digit kills in consecutive matches for the first time in her career. She averaged 3.56 kills per set and hit .264 for the weekend.
On the defensive end, Doherty tied her career-high with two blocks in Sunday's victory. She also racked up seven digs over the two matches, her most in a CAA weekend series this season.
This is the second time an Elon player has earned a weekly honor this season, as
Jordan Gower was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29.
The Phoenix split a pair of home matches with College of Charleston over the weekend and will travel to Hampton for a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday.
