ELON, N.C. – Leah Daniel was named to the All-CAA First Team and Haylie Clark to the All-CAA Second Team as the Colonial Athletic Association announced its postseason awards on Wednesday morning, Nov. 16. Freshman Clara LaRue was also named to the league's All-Rookie team to round out the recognition for the Elon University volleyball team.
"Congratulations to Leah, Haylie and Clara for earning CAA postseason accolades, they all were very deserving," head coach
Mary Tendler said. "The conference has a lot of amazing players this season, so it is a huge honor for these three to be recognized."
For the fourth straight season, Leah Daniel was named to the All-CAA First Team. A native of Zionsville, Ind., Daniel posted double-digit kills in 21 of Elon's 26 regular season matches and finished third in the CAA in kills with a team-best 364. On Oct. 15 against Towson, the senior became Elon's all-time career kills leader, as she passed Velma Degree's mark that had stood since 1993 in the team's victory over the previously unbeaten Tigers. Daniel also hit a career-high 29 aces in the regular season and added 95 digs and 42 blocks. She remains one of two Elon players to make the All-CAA First Team since the Phoenix joined the CAA in 2014, along with
Sydney Busa, who earned the honor in 2017.
"Leah had another tremendous season," Tendler said. "The offensive impact she has for us is huge whether she gets set the ball or attracts the defense her way. We count on her to score points for us each match and she never disappoints."
Senior Haylie Clark earned All-CAA Second Team Honors, as Elon's setter racked up 864 assists in the regular season to move into fifth on Elon's all-time career assist list. She has tallied double-digit assists in 79 consecutive matches and reached 30 assists on 18 occasions. The Saint Cloud, Fla., native registered a season-high 51 assists against William & Mary on Sept. 25 and accomplished her fourth career triple-double when she posted 30 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills in a five-set win against College of Charleston on Oct. 23. Clark added 11 other double-doubles this season, tied for her most in a regular season since 2019. She also had 236 digs, 93 kills, 37 blocks and 30 aces.
"Haylie has done everything we have asked of her this season as a setter or as a hitter," Tendler said. "She can impact the match in so many ways and we benefit from both her strong leadership and passion to win."
Clara LaRue became the fifth Elon player to make the All-CAA Rookie Team, as the freshman averaged 2.33 kills per set in conference play. LaRue reached double-digit kills five times and posted a career-best 15 against William & Mary on Sept. 25. She had at least 20 attacks on nine occasions, hitting .200 or higher in eight of those matches. The Lewisville, N.C., native also compiled 31 digs and 10 blocks.
"Once Clara understood our offensive and defensive schemes, she got much more comfortable on the court. Her consistency as a first-year player has been amazing and she has made some big plays at key moments for us," Tendler said.
