Elon's 10 honorees were the most in the program's CAA Football history and the most since the Phoenix had 11 players recognized by the Southern Conference in 2010.
FIRST TEAM
Senior linebacker
Marcus Hillman has posted one of the most dominant all-around defensive seasons in the program's FCS history. He leads the team with 73 tackles (almost double his 2021 season total of 38) and has a team-best 16.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks, to go with four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four quarterback hurries and three passes defended. Hillman's 16.5 tackles for loss are the most for a Phoenix defender since Joshua Jones had 17.0 in 2011 and they rank 11
th in the country. His 8.5 sacks are tied for the most in Elon's FCS era and ranks 16
th nationally. He is tied for sixth in the country in forced fumbles and among the top 20 in fumbles recovered. He has eight career forced fumbles, the most in Elon's 23-year FCS history. Earlier today, Hillman was named a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, presented annually to the national defensive player of the year in FCS.
Senior kicker
Skyler Davis has been one of the most reliable kickers in the country at any level of college football this year. He has made 5-of-6 field goals from 50 yards or further and is the only kicker in the country to have made five from at least 50 yards out this year. Overall, he is 16-of-20 on field goals and has been the team's primary kickoff specialist, booting 75 percent of his 60 kickoffs for touchbacks. Davis broke the school record with a 53-yard field goal against Delaware and became the program's FCS career scoring leader and career field goals made leader. He is currently tied for eighth in FCS history in career field goals made with 67.
SECOND TEAM
Senior wide receiver
Jackson Parham has been Elon's top pass-catching threat in 2022, posting a team-best 47 catches despite missing two games with injury. His 645 receiving yards (71.7 per game) are second on the team and he has added five touchdown receptions. Parham opened the season with eight catches for 143 yards and a touchdown at Vanderbilt and recorded a career-high 152 yards receiving in a win over Towson. He had two touchdowns in a road shutout victory over Wofford. With 1,809 career receiving yards, Parham ranks ninth in program history.
Senior offensive lineman
Michael Purcell has been a rock for the Phoenix in 2022, starting all 11 games at center. In fact, Purcell is part of an offensive line unit that has started the same five players for every game in 2022. He is the only member of that offensive line who is a senior and has helped Elon have consistent success offensively. Elon has rushed for 120+ yards in 10-of-11 games this year after reaching that rushing total just one time in 2021. They paved the way for
Jalen Hampton to become the program's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2004. The offensive line has also protected quarterback
Matthew McKay and the unit is tied for second in the CAA in fewest sacks allowed (1.5 per game).
Redshirt sophomore safety
Omar Rogers has been one of the team's most dynamic players despite missing three games in 2022 due to injury. He has recorded 59 tackles in only eight games, with 5.0 for loss and 2.0 sacks. He also has three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries and two pass break-ups. Rogers picked off passes on back-to-back drives to start the second half at Hampton, allowing the Phoenix to pull away in a close contest. His second interception was returned 72 yards. He also had an interception against Delaware and has recorded 11 tackles in a game three times.
THIRD TEAM
Redshirt freshman running back
Jalen Hampton made an immediate impact in his first season with Elon, rushing for 1,023 yards during the regular season. He became Elon's first 1,000-yard back since 2004 by being a consistent factor, rushing for at least 80 yards in eight of the 10 games he played, including each of the final five contests. He went over 100 yards rushing four times, posting 159 against Gardner-Webb, 145 at William & Mary, 136 against Delaware, and a career-best 177 at Hampton to close the regular season. Elon went 5-0 when he ran for at least 90 yards in a game, and he twice scored three touchdowns in one contest.
Redshirt sophomore offensive lineman
Jabril Williams started all 11 games at right guard for the Phoenix, part of an offensive line unit that has started the same five players for every game in 2022. Williams helped Elon have consistent success offensively as the Phoenix rushed for 120+ yards in 10-of-11 games this year after reaching that rushing total just one time in 2021. Williams helped pave the way for
Jalen Hampton to become the program's first 1,000-yard rusher since 2004. The offensive line has also protected quarterback
Matthew McKay and the unit is tied for second in the CAA in fewest sacks allowed (1.5 per game).
Junior cornerback
Tre'Von Jones has established a reputation as a playmaker in the secondary and as a punt returner for Elon. Jones has 28 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and three pass break-ups in 2022, as opposing offenses often steer clear of attacking him on defense. He had his sack in a win at Wofford and a fumble recovery in the win over Gardner-Webb. Jones also returned 20 punts for 178 yards during the regular season, including 71 yards on five punt returns against Vanderbilt in the season opener. He ranks among Elon's best punt returners in program history.
Sophomore punter
Jeff Yurk had a breakout season in 2022 and is on pace to break Elon's single-season punting average record. Heading into the FCS playoffs, Yurk is averaging 43.7 yards per punt, surpassing the previous record of 43.4 yards. He turned his season around at halftime of the William & Mary game, averaging just 36.8 yards on 18 punts up to that point in the year. But in his 31 punts since, Yurk is averaging 47.6 yards per punt and currently ranks seventh nationally with his 43.7 average. He has 14 50-yard punts in 2022 and 17 inside the 20. He posted a career-long 65-yarder in the second half of that William & Mary game and added a 62-yard punt at Hampton.
Redshirt sophomore
Chandler Brayboy has been impressive as a gunner on the punting unit and as a kick returner, while also being a starting wide receiver for the Phoenix. He has five tackles and has downed a handful of punts inside the opposition's five-yard line in 2022. He has helped pin opponents deep and is a factor in Yurk's 17 punts inside the 20. As Elon's primary kick returner, Braboy has 273 return yards on 13 kick returns, with a long of 46 yards on a kick return vs. Delaware. Brayboy has 25 catches for 412 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver, with a season-high 105 yards receiving at Vanderbilt in the season opener.
