ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team plays its first home match of the season this Tuesday, Sept. 6 as the Phoenix (1-5) hosts Duke in its home opener. The match at Schar Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon went 0-3 last weekend at the NC State Tournament.
- Colgate swept Elon in the first of the tournament. After Colgate won the first two sets 26-16 and 25-20, the Phoenix rallied in the third before losing it 25-22 to end the match.
- The maroon and gold won the first set against Tennessee 25-22 in the team's second match of the weekend. However, the Volunteers won a pair of tight sets (26-24 and 25-22) before taking the fourth set to clinch the match.
- Elon earned a 25-21 first set victory against tournament host NC State before the Wolfpack took the next three sets to win the match.
PHOENIX FACTS
- Jordan Gower leads the CAA and ranks No. 2 in the country with 6.36 digs per set. She has three 20-dig performances this season.
- CAA Preseason Player of the Year Leah Daniel leads the Phoenix in kills (74) and kills per set (3.36). She ranks No. 5 and No. 6 in the CAA in the two categories, respectively.
- Sydney Love is second on the Phoenix with 40 kills, 28 of which came at the NC State Tournament. Love is also second on the team in blocks (12.0)
- Haylie Clark's 143 assists lead the team and rank No. 6 in the CAA. The defending CAA Setter of the Year posted a season-high 36 assists Elon's last match against NC State.
- Jenn Krzeminski leads the maroon and gold in blocks (13.0) and aces (8). She also ranks 10th in the conference in hitting percentage (.304) and notched a season-high 10 kills against NC State.
- Freshman Brooke Doherty is fourth on the team in both points (33.5) and kills (31). She posted a career-high eight kills against NC State.
- As a team, Elon leads the CAA in digs (374) and digs per set (17.7). The Phoenix ranks No. 13 in the country in digs per set.
PRESEASON POLL & ALL-CAA TEAM
- Elon was selected to finish second in the 2022 CAA Preseason Poll and received three first-place votes. Defending champion Towson ranked first in the poll, earning seven of the 10 first-place votes.
- For the second straight year, Leah Daniel was named as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year. The Zionsville, Ind. native earned 2021 All-CAA First Team honors after ranking first in the CAA in kills (391), second in kills per set (3.87) and second in points per set (4.23) last season.
- Haylie Clark was selected to the Preseason All-CAA Team. The Saint Cloud, Fla. native was named the 2021 CAA Setter of the Year and after finishing second in the league last season in assists (955) and third in assists per set (9.46).
- Jenn Krzeminski was tabbed as an honorable mention to the Preseason All-CAA Team. The Furlong, Pa. native led the conference in hitting percentage (.389) and the team in blocks (114) last season.
THE SERIES
- Elon leads the all-time series against Duke 8-5. However, the maroon and gold has not defeated the Blue Devils since 1974.
- Duke won the last meeting between the teams on Aug. 31, 2021, in straight sets.

The Phoenix co-hosts the Aggie/Phoenix Volley for Unity next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10 at Schar Center. Elon will face Florida A&M on Friday at 7 p.m. and UNC Greensboro on Saturday at 7 p.m.
