ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's soccer team recorded its highest goal total since 2018 as the Phoenix defeated Greensboro College, 5-0, on Wednesday night, Oct. 25 at Rudd Field on Senior Night.

Elon (4-8-3) recorded its second straight win and its third in the past four matches. Greensboro College fell to 0-14-1 on the year as the programs met on the soccer pitch for the first time since 1995.

THE RUNDOWN
• The Phoenix got on the board inside the ninth minute to open the scoring in the contest.
Victor Stromsten received a feed from
Isak Sedin to give Elon an early 1-0 with his score inside the box.
• Elon got its second goal of the match about eight minutes later.
Ben Rosenblatt received a through ball from
Franc Gamiz Quer on the right side and took a shot that deflected off the post. The rebound found
Charlie Kurz in the box as the Gainesville, Va., native scored his first career goal to put the Phoenix ahead 2-0.
• In the 35
th minute, the Phoenix's
Jahmir Flowers joined Kurz and Stromsten in the scoring column. The freshman played a ball from Kurz on the right side inside the box, maneuvered around the defense for his first goal of the year to give Elon a 3-0 after one period.
• Early in the second half,
Uli Schmidt added his first career goal in the 50
th minute. The San Diego, Calif., native received a cross from
Sumner Nenninger inside the box and pushed the ball to the back right corner for Elon's fourth goal of the evening.
• The Phoenix closed out the scoring with a late goal from
August Guinle in the 88
th minute. Schmidt played the ball to Guinle on the left side with the sophomore taking a few steps into the box before sending a strike that just snuck inside the crossbar for his first goal of the year. That gave the Phoenix a 5-0 advantage and the eventual win on Senior Night.

Notes
• Elon's five goals are the most that the Phoenix has scored in a single game since an 8-1 at Rutgers in 2018.
• The Phoenix finished with 35 shots on the night with 17 shots on target. Both totals are the highest for the program since having 28 total shots and 13 shots on goal at Radford in 2021.
• Stromsten added his team-best fourth goal of the season and leads the Phoenix in total points with 11.
•
Jackson Leavitt and
Patrick Shealy split time in goal for the Phoenix with the pair each playing 45 minutes to combine for the clean sheet.

UP NEXT
The Phoenix will host UNCW for its regular-season finale on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at Rudd Field. Elon would need a win over the Seahawks to clinch a spot in the CAA tournament for the third straight year.
