Phoenix At Home Against Hampton This Weekend

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team is back in Schar Center this weekend as the Phoenix hosts Hampton for a pair of CAA contests Saturday and Sunday Oct. 28-29.

LAST TIME OUT  
  • The Phoenix lost both matches last weekend at College of Charleston. Elon fell in four sets on Saturday and fought hard to the finish on Sunday before coming up short in a five-set battle. 
  • Junior Sydney Love tallied a season-high 18 kills in Sunday's match after posting 13 on Saturday. 
  • With 26 assists and 12 digs on Sunday, freshman Jessica Parker recorded her third double-double of the season. Parker also recorded a career-high three blocks on Sunday.  
  • Jordan Gower continued a strong level of play in the back line for the Phoenix as she totaled 53 digs on the weekend averaging 5.89 digs per set.  
  • In Sunday's match, Caroline Berlekamp tied her career-high in blocks with six.  
  • The maroon and gold delivered season-highs in team digs in both matches this weekend with 70 on Saturday and 71 on Sunday. 
  
PHOENIX FACTS  
  • Jessica Parker is seventh in the conference with 471 assists and eighth in assists per set with 6.12. The Winfield, Ill. native has recorded double-digit assists in every game this season and leads the team in aces with 29. 
  • Jordan Gower's 332 digs and 4.31 digs per set rank No. 3 in the CAA. The senior has double-digit digs in 16 matches and has posted at least 20 digs eight times. 
  • Freshman Caroline Berlekamp ranks No. 9 in the league in blocks and blocks per set.  
  • With 167 kills, Cameron Lanier leads the team and is second on the team in kills per set with 2.54. Sydney Love leads the team with 2.74 kills per set and is second on the team in kills with 167. 
  • Ericka Link is averaging 3.13 assists per set and has delivered double-digit assists in her last two contests for the Phoenix. Link is also third on the team in aces with 14.  
  • Junior Caroline Doyle is second on the team in both digs (163) and aces (20). 
  • As a team, Elon ranks No. 6 in the CAA in blocks per set (1.98) and No. 7 in digs per set (14.16) and blocks (152.5), while tied for seventh in the league in aces per set (1.51). 
  
THE MATCHUP  
  • Elon is 11-1 in its previous matchups against Hampton. The teams faced each other twice at neutral sites in 2012, with Hampton earning its first and only win in the series on Aug. 24 in five sets. 
  • The Phoenix and Pirates have never met in the Schar Center.  
  • Elon has won 35 of the 41 sets between the teams in their 12 matches. The Phoenix has won eight of the 12 meetings in straight sets.  
  • This will be the second time the teams have faced each other as CAA opponents.  
  
SCOUTING HAMPTON 
  • The Pirates enter the weekend with a 0-14 overall record after dropping a pair of matches to UNCW last weekend. The team is still looking for its first victory against a CAA opponent, as they currently hold a 0-12 mark in league matches.  
  • The Pirates rank No. 2 in the CAA in opponent blocks per set (1.57).  
  • With 3.04 assists per set, Kalyn Pierre leads the Pirates in the category along with total assists at 82 on the season. The senior has double-digit assists in five of the last six matches she's appeared in. 
  • Madison Clark and Maria Eduarda Rodriguez are pacing Hampton this season with 58 kills each. 
  • The Pirates' defense is led by Kylah Hunter, who has a team-high 2.89 digs per set, and Rickelle Westcott, who leads the team with 0.70 blocks per set. Westcott also paces the team in aces with 15 and ranks tied for No. 7 in the league with 0.41 aces per set.
  • Hampton is led by third year head coach Sonja Maksimovic, who also played for the Pirates from 2011-2014.  
  
UP NEXT  
Elon is the road next weekend for its last travel weekend of conference play at Towson, Md. for a pair of CAA matches against the Tigers. The teams will play on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4-5. Saturday is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and Sunday's matchup will begin at 2 p.m.
