Volleyball Heads North For Final CAA Road Series Against Towson

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team travels to face the defending four-time CAA Champions Towson on Nov. 4-5. Saturday's matchup is set for a 6 p.m. start and Sunday's match will begin at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
 
  • Elon went 2-0 last weekend as they defeated Hampton in straight sets on Oct. 28-29.  
  • On Saturday, Lindsey Harris tied her career-high in kills with 10 and posted a .409 hitting percentage. Harris also led the team in blocks with two on Saturday.  
  • Jessica Parker continued to pace the Phoenix in assists with 49 on the weekend. She averaged 8.17 assists per set while also tallying one kill, four aces and 10 digs in the weekend series.  
  • Three Phoenix players recorded two aces on Saturday – Shannon O'Laughlin, Parker and Harris.  
  • On Sunday Jordan Gower led the team in digs with 12 and tied Caroline Doyle with a team-high three aces.  
  • Caroline Berlekamp tallied a team-high four blocks on Sunday while Sydney Love and Cameron Lanier paced the team in kills with 10 a piece.  
  • In Sunday's sweep, Elon controlled the court outpacing Hampton in kills, aces, blocks assists and digs.  
     
PHOENIX FACTS
  • Elon enters the weekend 2-12 in CAA play and 5-18 overall. 
  • Cameron Lanier leads the team with 205 kills this season. Sydney Love is second on the team with 184 kills.  
  • With 520 assists this season, Jessica Parker paces the Phoenix and ranks No. 7 in the league in the category. The freshman has recorded 20-plus assists in ten of the team's last 11 matches. Parker also ranks eighth in the CAA in assists (6.27) and aces per set (0.40). 
  • Senior Jordan Gower ranks No. 2 in the CAA with 4.31 digs per set. She has recorded double-digit digs in all but four matches this season.  
  • As a team, Elon ranks No. 6 in the conference in digs (14.07) and blocks per set (1.96) along with ranking No. 7 in aces per set (1.60).  

THE MATCHUP
 
  • Towson holds a 17-3 advantage in the all-time series between the teams. 
  • The Phoenix has defeated Towson twice since beating the Tigers in their first meeting in 1998. 
  • Elon split a series against the Tigers at home last season. Elon won in five sets on Oct 15 before losing in four on Oct. 16. 
  • The maroon and gold have only defeated Towson once on the road (1-9).  

SCOUTING TOWSON
 
  • Towson holds a 19-5 overall record, which includes a 12-2 mark in conference matches. The Tigers went 2-0 last weekend in a pair of matches at North Carolina A&T.  
  • Nina Cajic leads the Tigers and ranks No. 2 in the CAA in kills (307) and kills per set per set (3.53). The senior has eclipsed double-digit kills 18 times this season. 
  • With 8.68 assists per set and 755 total assists, Sarah Jordan ranks No. 4 in the league in both categories. The sophomore has double-digit assists in every match this season and posted a career-high 60 in the team's five-set win against Delaware on Sept. 24. 
  • Aayinde Smith's 99 blocks this season leads the CAA and Towson as a team. Smith's 1.15 blocks per set are the second most in the CAA. She posted a season high nine blocks in Towson's first match against South Carolina on Aug. 25.  
  • Erin Brothers and Irbe Lazda are both tied for fifth in the CAA in blocks per set with 0.98. 
  • Sydney Stewart is pacing the Tigers in digs (282) and digs per set (3.86). Her 3.86 digs per set ranks No. 5 in the conference.   
  • As a team, the Tigers lead the conference in points (18.17), hitting percentage (.296), assists (12.86), kills (13.87) and blocks per set (2.52).  
  • Towson is led by eleven-year head coach Don Metil. 

UP NEXT
 
Elon rounds out the season with a pair of home matches against Delaware. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
