Men’s Tennis Drops Tight Battle Against William & Mary

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team could not complete a comeback against William & Mary on Saturday, as the Phoenix fell 4-2.

Elon dropped the doubles point but won two of the first three completed singles matches to pull even at 2-2. William & Mary then went ahead 3-2 and Elon could not rally in the final set of the remaining two matches, as the Tribe clinched with a victory at No. 5 singles.
 
With the loss, Elon falls to 11-7 on the season. William & Mary improves to 7-9. 
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • Elon had its longest streak of successful doubles points this season snapped at seven, as William & Mary won Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • Nicholas Condos and Ben Zipay posted Elon's lone doubles win on Court 3 with a 6-4 score. The duo is the first to reach 10 wins on the season for Elon. 
  • Freshman Veljko Krstic kept his recent hot streak going in singles, as he won 6-2, 7-5 against William & Mary's Andres Silva on Court 3 to tie the match at 1-1. Krstic now has a team-best 13 singles wins on the season and has won his last eight completed matches. All his victories this season have come at the No. 3 position. 
  • Zipay gave the Phoenix a short-lived 2-1 lead after a 6-0, 7-5 victory on Court 6 against Alexander Karman. The win was his ninth of the season as he improved his singles record to 9-2. The junior has 19 wins across doubles and singles this season, which is just one behind Daniel Martin for the most on the team. 
  • Less than a minute after Zipay's win, William & Mary won No. 2 singles to tie the match at 2-2. 
  • The Tribe won the final two completed singles matches at the Nos. 1 and 5 spots to clinch a 4-2 victory.
  • The loss was Elon's first of the season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
