Volleyball At Home Against Northeastern For Alumni Weekend Saturday And Sunday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team plays its second consecutive CAA home series Saturday and Sunday against Northeastern. Saturday's match will begin at 7 p.m. while Sunday's is set to start at 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon lost a pair of matches against UNCW last weekend. The Phoenix fell in three sets on Saturday and lost a five-setter on Sunday.
  • Freshman Keira Kasten registered career-high 16 kills and nine digs in Sunday's loss.
  • Lindsey Harris totaled a career-high 10 kills in Sunday's match.
  • With 22 digs on Saturday, Jordan Gower surpassed 1,500 career digs, becoming the fifth player in Elon program history to reach the milestone. The senior added 42 total digs on the weekend to lead the team.
  • Jessica Parker combined for 45 assists against the Seahawks and tied her career-best 31 assists on Sunday. Additionally, Parker broke her career-best in aces with five.
  • On Sunday, Ericka Link notched a season-best 19 assists while Caroline Doyle tallied a season-best 11 digs.
  • Kyla Johnson added a career-high six blocks on Saturday followed by five blocks on Sunday.
  • Abigail Sparkman led the team on Sunday with two service aces, the first in her Elon career.
 
PHOENIX FACTS
  • Elon is 0-4 in CAA play and 3-10 overall.
  • Jessica Parker ranks eighth in the CAA in assists (272) and ninth in assists per set (6.18).
  • Freshman Kyla Johnson leads the team and ranks No. 5 in the CAA in blocks per set at 1.03.
  • Cameron Lanier continues to pace the Phoenix this season with 112 kills, followed by Sydney Love with 77. Lanier has registered double-digit kills in five of Elon's last six matches.
  • Jordan Gower ranks fourth in the CAA in digs (183) and fourth in the league in digs per set (4.16).
  • As a team, Elon ranks fifth in the CAA in digs per set (14.20), eighth in aces per set (1.57) and tied for sixth in blocks per set (1.91).
 
THE MATCHUP
  • The Huskies hold a 14-5 advantage in the head-to-head series between the teams.
  • Northeastern beat the Phoenix in four sets in the first round of the CAA Championship last season on Nov. 17, 2022.
  • The Huskies have won five of the last six matches against Elon, four of which came at Northeastern. 
  • Elon is 4-2 in home matches against the Huskies.

SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
  • The Huskies enter the weekend with a 7-5 overall record and 3-1 mark in CAA matches. They hold a 3-1 record on the road this season.
  • Northeastern split last weekend's series against Hofstra at home.
  • With 2.14 blocks per set, the Huskies rank No. 3 in the CAA in the category.
  • Three Northeastern players have registered at least 100 kills this season. Abby Reck (127), Defne Arliel (107) and Anabel Zier (105) pace the Huskies. Zier is fourth in the CAA with a .384 hitting percentage and leads the team in blocks with 42.0.
  • Jessica Frannea is Northeastern's lead setter this season with 283 assists (7.26 per set).
  • Pono Gacutan has 146 digs this season (3.17 per set) to rank sixth in the CAA in total digs.
  • As a team, the Huskies rank No. 5 in the CAA in service aces with 82. Five members of the team have double-digit aces this season.
  • Northeastern is led by fourth-year head coach Lenika Vazquez.
 
UP NEXT
Elon returns to the road next Saturday and Sunday with a weekend series against William & Mary. Both contests are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
