Volleyball Sweeps Campbell Sunday Afternoon

ELON, N.C. – A strong offensive performance led the Elon University volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Campbell on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The teams traded points to open set one but with the score tied at 4-4, Campbell went on a 3-0 run to pull ahead 7-4. Elon chipped away at the lead eventually trailing by only one at 10-9. From there a kill from Catherine Rucker and a block from Cameron Lanier and Rucker knotted the score at 11-11. The Phoenix won five of the next six points to gain a three-point lead at 15-12. The teams went back and forth and with Elon up 22-17, the Phoenix won three straight points thanks to kills from Lindsey Harris and Sydney Love and an ace from Annabelle Schall to end set one on top 25-17.
  • The second set saw a similar start as the first as neither team led by more than two until midway through the frame. With the score tied at 15-15, three straight Love kills put Elon ahead three at 18-15. Elon won four of the next six points to extend their lead to five at 22-15. Campbell got back within three at 23-20 but back-to-back kills from Lanier closed set two with Elon winning 25-20.
  • Again, it was a back-and-forth battle to start set three. With Elon up one at 8-7, Campbell went on a 4-0 run to regain their lead at 11-8. Elon won three consecutive points to tie the score again at 11-11. From there, Campbell went on a 6-2 run gaining a four-point advantage at 17-13 late in the frame. The teams traded points, but a 6-0 serving run for Abigail Sparkman put the Phoenix back on top 21-19. The Lady Camels rallied off two more points but two kills from Love ended the set and match 25-21 as Elon swept Campbell.
NOTES  UP NEXT 
  • The maroon and gold hit the road for a weekend series against Stony Brook on October 19-20. Both matches against the Seawolves are set to start at noon.
