Elon Beats UNCW; Finish Season Third In CAA Standings

Wilmington, N.C.- The Elon Phoenix (12-3-1, 7-3 CAA) finished off their 2024 regular season with a 2-1 win over the UNCW Seahawks (4-9-5, 2-5-3 CAA) in Wilmington. This marks the first time ever that the Phoenix have won in Wilmington and just the third win in program history against the Seahawks.

Ashlee Brehio finished the match with a three-point day, scoring the equalizer in the first half and then assisting the game-winner. Lauren McCauley tucked away the final goal and gave the Phoenix their seventh conference win and 12th overall.

How It Happened
  • UNCW struck first in the seventh minute to put the Phoenix behind 1-0.
  • Elon's first shot came from Kennedy Jones but was off target.
  • After a trio of substitutions, the Elon offense began to go. Isa Murdock nearly put the Phoenix in front but her effort in the bottom left corner was saved.
  • The Phoenix would not be denied when a ball from Jones found a cutting Ashlee Brehio in behind and she tucked away the finish with a defender draped on her.
  • Elon continued to control the second half of the first 45 with another effort from Isa Murdock and spells of possession.
  • The second goal would come from Lauren McCauley. A series of key passes from the back going from Rachel Buckle to Gabby Hoschek to Brehio and then McCauley ripped through the Seahawk defense to give Elon the lead.
  • The defense was the star in the final 45, with Katie Bisgrove collecting three saves in the second half as the Elon allowed just five shots in the second half all being relatively comfortable for the freshman keeper.
