Elon Delivers Impressive 6-1 Win Over Campbell

ELON, N.C. – Playing its first match of the season against a CAA opponent, the Elon University men's tennis team followed a thrilling doubles point with a stellar showing in singles to defeat Campbell 6-1 on Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

With the victory, Elon has now won its last two matches and to move to 2-3 on the season. The loss drops Campbell's record to 5-2. 
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • Oskar Antinheimo and Jack Curtis teamed up for their third doubles victory of the season on Court 3, as the duo won 6-2. They are Elon's winningest tandem through five matches. 
  • Campbell answered with a doubles win of their own at the No. 2 spot. 
  • Doubles came down to the final match to finish on Court 1. With all eyes on Daniel Martin and Dylan Heap, the fifth years came up big with a 7-5 victory to secure the point for the Phoenix. It is the duo's second straight win at the No. 1 position. 
  • Juan Sengariz earned Elon's first singles win of the day with a decisive 6-2, 6-3 result over Campbell's Tomas Balazi. Sengariz has now won back-to-back matches at the No. 4 spot.
  • After the Camels won on Court 1, Heap finished off a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 5 position against Noe Macquart. In each of Elon's last two contests, Heap has won both his doubles and singles bouts. 
  • On Court 3, Oskar Antinheimo posted the winning point for the maroon and gold with a 7-5 triumph over Lukas Steffen. The sophomore has won consecutive matches at the No. 3 spot in his first two career appearances there. 
  • From a set down playing at No. 6 singles, Jack Curtis fought back to grind out a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Luke Tollenaar. It was his first career victory after dropping the first set and his fourth win of the season, tied with Antinheimo for the most on the team. 
  • In the final match to finish, Veljko Krstic battled past Benjamin Maes 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 on Court 2. It was his second victory of the week in a final set, as he won in a match tiebreak on Tuesday against South Carolina State. 
  • The Phoenix is now 2-0 at home this season and 12-2 all-time against the Camels.
  • In its two home matches, Elon is 11-1 in singles matches.

Elon is back in action tomorrow at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center at 2 p.m. against UNC Asheville.
