ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team did not drop a point in a pair of wins Tuesday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, as the Phoenix swept Shaw 7-0 before blanking Davidson 4-0 to reach double-digit victories on the season.

With the wins, Elon is now 11-5 on the season. Shaw fell to 0-4 with the loss while Davidson dropped to 5-8.
THE RUNDOWN VS. SHAW
- Elon did not lose a game in doubles, winning 6-0 on both Courts 1 and 2 to take the point.
- The Phoenix won by default at the No. 3 spot and therefore needed just one victory to clinch the doubles point.
- Playing doubles together for the first time this season after making 14 appearances a season ago, Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic secured the doubles point at the No. 2 spot. It was their sixth win as a tandem.
- On Court 1, Juan Sengariz and Ben Zipay also won 6-0.
- Elon started singles up 2-0 as the maroon and gold took the point from No. 6 singles by default.
- In his third career appearance at the No. 4 singles spot, Zipay won the first nine games before Shaw's Paul Charvoz retired. The victory was Zipay's fourth of the season as he moved to 3-0 in his career playing No. 4 singles.
- Making his debut at the No. 2 singles position for the Phoenix, Sengariz did not lose in a game in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Eduardo Valenca. The two bagels were the third and fourth 6-0 sets of the season for Sengariz. The point secured an Elon victory.
- Daniel Martin continued Elon's dominance on Court 1, as he topped Lorenzo Martinetti 6-3, 6-1. It was Martin's sixth singles victory of the season and his second at the No. 1 position.
- In his third career singles appearance, freshman Alonso Roca earned his first singles victory with the maroon and gold by a 6-2, 6-3 score against Scott Ndengoue on Court 5. It was Roca's first match that ended in straight sets, as his previous two contests went the distance.
- Playing in the top half of the lineup for the first time in his freshman season, Jack Curtis rounded out a Phoenix sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot against Augustin Gastaldi. He improved to 8-0 in completed singles matches on the season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- The 7-0 sweep was Elon's third by that score this season, with all three coming at home.
THE RUNDOWN VS. DAVIDSON
- Elon and Davidson played clinch in both doubles and singles.
- The Phoenix won on Courts 1 and 3 to win its second doubles point of the day.
- Back together at the No. 3 spot, Oskar Antinheimo and Jack Curtis rolled to a 6-0 victory. It was their team-leading ninth of the season and their fifth to come by either a 6-0, 6-1 or 6-2 score.
- Making their third straight appearance at the No. 1 spot, Juan Sengariz and Ben Zipay clinched doubles for Elon with a 6-1 win. The duo is up to seven victories on the season, three of which have come playing the No. 1 position.
- Before their match was halted on Court 2, Daniel Martin and Veljko Krstic held a 4-3 lead after overcoming an early break deficit.
- The doubles point was Elon's third straight and ninth in 10 contests at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Antinheimo kept Elon unbeaten in singles on the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Davidson's Alejandro Solares on Court 3. The win was his 11th of the season, matching him with Curtis for the most on the team. The sophomore has won four of his last five singles appearances and is up to nine wins on the season playing the No. 3 position.
- In his first match of the day, Dylan Heap brought the Phoenix one point closer to victory with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win against Jerry Wang on Court 5. The triumph was his first in singles since Feb. 29 and improved his record this season to 5-5.
- Sengariz clinched a 4-0 victory for the maroon and gold with his seventh consecutive singles win on Court 4. He topped Nico Pinzon 6-2, 6-2 as he extended his streak of winning sets to 14. The junior has not lost in singles since Elon faced No. 20 North Carolina State on Feb. 25 and became the third Phoenix player to reach double-digit wins on the season with his two victories Tuesday.
- On Court 2, Martin was again within two games of victory when his match was stopped, as he held a 6-3, 4-3 advantage over Udday Singh. Elon trailed by a set in the other two remaining matches.
- The two wins Tuesday brought head coach Michael Leonard's career total to 295.
- The victories also secured a third straight season with double-digit victories for the Phoenix. Excluding the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, Elon has now reached double-digit wins in every season since 2012.
- Elon improved to 9-1 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center with the victories. The win over Davidson was the team's fifth sweep at home.
- With the win over Davidson, Elon has now won 21 straight matches against the Wildcats.
UP NEXT
Elon closes out its five-match homestand by hosting Charlotte on March 22. The contest at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. The 49ers are currently ranked No. 70 in the ITA team rankings.
